[history]
The White House yesterday said a new immigration review is under way that could lead to amnesty for millions of illegal aliens living and working in the United States.
Confirmation of the review came during a White House briefing, just two days after Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge said during a town hall meeting in Miami that the government had to "afford some kind of legal status" to the 8 million to 12 million illegal aliens in the country.

Do we now have some type of gov't that operates on some sort of double standard where some people and corporations are more equal than others? YES

I wouldn't support that either.
All we need do is make the criminals produce the same identification citizens have to produce when we use a government service. If they can't produce ID detain and deport them. And enforce the laws against employing and harboring them. Anyone employing or harboring them is an accessory and a conspirator in their crime and we should use the RICCO laws on them.
If we confiscate the assets of one large corporation and a couple of homes, people will stop employing these criminals. Cut them off from services and from work and they will go home and not come back.

I will then be forced to vote for third party because after 9/11 that act would be close to treason.
A poll on cnn about amnesty needs freeping:

<< NO! If President Bush proposes an amnesty for illegal aliens, I'm sitting out the election next November. Americans don't want one. >>
Me too.

It's political suicide for them to grant massive amnesty and voting rights to those who will naturally vote for democrats, nevermind the negative impact it would have on the country. >>
They already ALL vote for "DemocRATS!"

Same here. Plus I feel so helpless. The American people have made it abundantly clear just how we feel.
Our so-called leaders are well aware that most of us strongly oppose this.
And they just don't care!
They're going to push these things through whether we want them or not.
As if it's not bad enough we have to fight an invasion of millions of illegals flooding across our borders, we also have to be ever vigilant and constantly fighting our own leaders who are seemingly eager to sell us down the river! >>
[B A:] I just decided, while reading this thread [And whist congratulating the subject piece's author for calling the invading enemy by its name: "Criminal Alien!"] -- that unless the Bush administration turns it around and makes a stand against our domestic enemies -- the once-supreme "court" and every other feral bench included -- and begins to defend Our Nation's Sovereign Borders and to round up and expel every criminal alien invader -- I am keeping my check book in my pocket from today and for the rest of Mr Bush's term -- and will stay home on election day next year -- and encourge my family and FRiends to do the same.
This is one died-in-the-wool member of its core base the Republican Party -- which I joined, with the NRA, a couple of years BEFORE I became an American -- can strike off its supporters' lists until it and its execrable career politicians begin to represent Our Beloved FRaternal Republic's Founding Law.
And to represent me.
God save our Republic!

END QUOTE.
Messrs Bush and Ridge have pulled of the impossible and have gotten me furious.
And to sit on my political hands.
God save Our United States. [FRom its self-appointed permanent politicians!]
God save Our Beloved FRaternal Republic.

No, it means I'll be honest about where the President is wrong and criticize him for it Unfortunately, mere peasants such as you and speaking critically of politicans is not going to alter their behavior one iota.
...while recognizing that the paramount issue of our time is the War on Terror...
The GOP's big govt carte blanche/get out of jail free card has been: control the house, control the senate, control both houses and the WH and then we'll show those socialists who we really are.
And now we have an open ended WOT with a shadow enemy composed of non state actors. A war I suspect I will not live to see the end of.
Why fight this war? At this rate there will be nothing worth saving in a few more years.

J.R.

What percentage of them came in during the 21 January 2001 to 12 December 2003 time period??Why did you single out those dates? Is your point to 'bash Bush' or find those responsible? Quite obviously, you have strong suspicions.....

The BALKANIZATION of America is well under way...more vote pandering... buying votes with your tax money...is there no end to the stupidity now rampant in both of the major political parties ?

It's a minor insignificance know as "holding one's currently elected public officials, responsible."
Sincere apologies if I stepped on any political sacred cows of yours.

Is it possible to have another Freeper Poll on the top page of FR? As you can see, this is a HOT issue with a lot of the subscribers and fans of FR here.
I propose the following quick poll:
"Director Tom Ridge of Homeland Security made recent comments about proposing solutions to the issue of illegal immigration. They were to suggest legalizing the status of those unauthorized who are here already in the U.S. Do you: A) Strongly support? B) Support with conditions? c) Strongly oppose? D) Oppose with conditions?"
