I have the same amount for respect as men who say, 'the wife'. Why do some guys address their spouses as property?

Does not "my" wife connotate property more than "the" wife?

Let me clarify. "The" sounds like someone treats their spouse as an object, rather than a person. My Mom pulled this on my Dad once, referring to him as "the husband". My Dad was incredulous.
