Daily Campaign Finance Reform thread
Posted on 12/11/2003 8:58:58 AM PST by Valin
Would you be willing to start a daily thread with this intent? Or conversely, a thread that is bumped to the top regularly? I would help. I have too many responsibilities to commit to hosting it. Lazamataz
To get this started my suggetion, Start putting pressure on your local rep. and senator to undo this monstrosity. Everytime you see them, ask them, What are you going to do about this? another idea, let them know that you are cutting back by 1/2 your contribution to them as a protest.

How about "Give us back the First!" Or "Clean up Bush's mess."

This is a great idea! I am also going to call Elton Gallegly,(R)Simi Valley, CA. and ask him what can be done. I ain't rolling over on this one.

Excellent idea... This is what we need.
I don't really know how to start a ping list, so I wouldn't be a great choice to start a thread every day, although I can bump it to the top every day, and interested persons could check in regularly and post activities/updates/progress.

Here's some information to include in the body of your thread tomorrow. I suggest we let the thread 'body' evolve for a few days, with us adding contact numbers and information, then when you feel you have it nailed down, publish a thread you bump for a few weeks. Then author another identical thread when the thread numbers get too high. And so on.
Here's the info:

Thanks for your great reply. I'm putting it in this thread so we can use it in our emails/letters.
"Shouldn't be difficult (logistically) to recind.
It's only a federal regulation, and everything was constitutional prior to its passge and would be equally constitutional upon its recision.
A 1-liner, such as:
"By majority vote of Congress, CFR and all associated regulatory changes are hereby recinded"
Signed into Law, this day ________________ (Pres George W. Bush)."

Absolutely. First, discuss, then try like hell to DO something about it.
To: Valin
One point: A common mistake many people make is to overload people with info. This is a phenomenon actually proven by research. If you give them TOO MUCH info, they shut down.
Let's keep our message very edited and very trim. We will need to extract the info we present into a managable form, so as to keep people active.

exactly!
And what's so great about FR is that it took fewer than 24 hours to get something started.

May I suggest a standard letter to your rep if he/she voted for it?: "I noticed your vote on CFR and hear your laments about the evil influence of money on politics. Heeding your warning, I'll refrain from sending you any more of it."

This post serves as a bump and as an expression of hope that just as many freepers are interested in doing something to get rid of this "monstrosity," as Valin so well described it, as they were in fighting each other on various threads yesterday & this a.m.

LOL! My rep is Pat Schroeder's heir: Diana DeGette. I already refrain from sending her $. :)
However, Tom Tancredo is nearby and used to appear often on Mike Rosen's AM radio show. Perhaps I'll write Mr. Tancredo and suggest that he start this bill to repeal CFR on the first day of the next session... If we can get something going on Rosen's show, perhaps this can snowball.
