Contacting the White House
Me
Posted on 12/10/2003 7:46:16 PM PST by voicereason
There a a few really long threads on both Campaign Finance Reform and Illegal Immigration. Let's strike while the iron is hot and put forth a concerted effort to contact the White House tomorrow.
I would propose that between 9:30-11:30am we call them and comment on the fiasco that has arisen around Campaign Finance Reform and the Supreme Court's ruling.
From 12:30-2:30 the topic is illegal immigration and Tom Ridge's lack of commonsense on this issue (Don't take that literally and call Tom Ridge an idiot on the phone). :-)
If we can concentrate the number of calls during a small period of time, perhaps we can shut them down. It may be advantageous to let them know that became aware of these on FreeRepublic in order to let them know that their actions are being watched.
The numbers for the White House are:

What sort of thinking is this?
CFR is a simple law, not even an Amendment. If you don't like it at this point, it just needs to be killed with another law.
And newsflash: Congress writes such laws.
But instead of contacting Congress, you want to contact President Bush.
That's absurd.
Make this a campaign issue. Make Congress repeal it. Get Bush to say that he'd sign it if Congress passed it.
But if you don't contact Congress, there is *nothing* that President Bush can do about CFR now.
And if you can't get Congress to repeal CFR, then you certainly aren't going to be able to impeach the SC Justices who ruled on CFR, much less the President.
So *all* roads now lead to Congress, yet you are off on a Bush hunt.
Eerie.

Should Congress be called? Yes.
A problem, at least as I see it, is that this simple law thanks to the decision of the Supreme Court somewhat trumps the 1st Amendment.
Contacting Bush is a good idea because he signed the bill even though he admitted that it was flawed and essentially expected the courts to iron out the flaws.
The President tomorrow, and Congress the day after. :-)

"Contacting Bush is a good idea because..." he can no longer do anything about it. Oh yeah, brilliant.

Good comments.
Besides clearing out AlQuida and removing Sadam in a rapid manner and bringing honor back to the White House and honor to our military, tax cuts, what else has he done?!! (good protest sign?)

I would add the following: preventing our economy from sinking into a depression worse than what we experienced in the 30s; fighting for numerous pro-life initiatives including a ban on partial birth abortion and, more recently, preventing abortions from being reinstated at military bases here and around the world. I could go on and on and on and on.
My question to you voicereason -- did you ever call President Bush to THANK him for all of the aforementioned successes?! I thought not!

Well congress and the President both said the courts would solve this well they did all right now the people are screwed .Who do you complain to now when they are all corrupt ? The congress passed it and the president signed it.It sure is nice all this bipartisan cooperation .

"Who do you complain to now when they are all corrupt ?"
Southack answered that question in his #7 post. The answer is still "Congress".
Once a bill becomes law, only Congress or the SCOTUS can change it. Challenges to the law have failed in the SC, so the only alternative left is Congress.

You seem confident that IF the Congress were to pass another law the President Bush would sign it.
What makes you so sure that he wouldn't VETO it and keep the present version, after all, he signed it into law in the first place!
I do not share your confidence.
To: Southack
But instead of contacting Congress, you want to contact President Bush.Absolutely, yes.
George Bush is the head of the political party holding majorities in the House and Senate. He is the boss, the Big Man. He proposes legislation CONSTANTLY and uses his leadership to prod Congress to pass it.
Taxpayers now have a trillion dollar Medicare boondoggle hanging around their necks as a direct consequence of President Bush's leadership skills vis a vis Congress.
What has been done in Congress can be undone in the same manner. Pressure must be brought on Congress from two directions: from citizens AND from President Bush.

First call for me is going to be to Senator McConnell for having the juevos to carry this case to the Supreme Court.
Second call will be to Senator Warner, demanding he take action to have this abomination removed from the books.
Third call will be to Senator Allen, demanding he take action to have this abomination removed from the books.
Fourth call will be to my RINO congressman, Davis, demanding he take action to have this abomination removed from the books.
Fifty and final call of the day will be to my friend Lori because it's her birthday.
