O'Reilly displays his total ignorance on "assault" weapons ban. (VANITY-Re;Last nights show)
Posted on 12/10/2003 8:01:44 AM PST by 1Old Pro
I turn on O'Reilly last night to see what he's talking about. I normally enjoy about 50% of the show and believe he's just too arrogant for his actual knowledge.
So he has this gun advocate PRATT on talking about algor. The assault weapons ban comes up and O'Reilly says:
"I support the assault weapons ban, people don't need bazookas or machine guns"
So I figure this guy Pratt will immediately confront him with something like, "Well O'Reilly, you just showed America just how stupid you are and displayed your total non-undertanding of this issue.......and more"
But nothing from Pratt, he just let him get away with this. So now the mis-informed have had their mis-informed opinion supported. I was so mad I had to turn the show off.

That was a pretty disappointing segment.
O'Reilly pretty much admits he's a gun-grabber. He is not a conservative, he is a populist with journalistic integrity.
I was disappointed in Larry Pratt's handling of the interview.

Exactly what I was thinking when I watched it. I generally like O'Reilly and his opinions, he does genuinely look out for the little guy but his ignorance of the 2d Amendment is appalling and hurts his believability.

I was disappointed in Larry Pratt's handling of the interview. To say the least. If he's a spokeman for gun rights we need a new spokesman.

I think that is probably a highly calculated statement rather than one made from ignorance.

his ignorance of the 2d Amendment is appalling and hurts his believability. Exactly. If he's so ignorant on this important issue what else is he talking about that he knows nothing about.

That's two listeners he lost for I switched channels after he cut Pratt off for the third time. I was shocked that Oreilley thinks assault weapons are more powerful than deer rifles!
He is usually pretty well read on a subject when he jumps on it but this time he showed his ignorance bigtime. Pratt stated that no military in the world uses the type of weapons listed in the ban, Bill scoffed, showing his arrogance/ignorance/stupidity.

O'Reilly is PROUD of the fact that he is thoroughly ignorant of every issue he discusses. The man is evil.

I thought so ,too. To characterize assault weapons as "Bazookas" was SPINNING. Shame on you, Bill. The gun guy was a whimp, too.
To: FreedomPoster
He is not a conservative, he is a populist with journalistic integrity. I realised this after borrowing a Playboy that had his interview in it. From what I had heard about him up until that time was that he was this big conservative. The interview showed that he was not. I already sent in a short and polite email asking that he please at least read the thing he supports before spinning the "facts" on his show.

E-Mail: oreilly@foxnews.com Dear Bill, when did the spin START here on your show. Knowing or unknowingly saying you're against the so-called assault weapons ban because "people don't need bazookas or machine guns" is either spin or ignorance - you decide.

We need our own Free Republic TV Stations coast to coast. The GOP has a great TV studio on the concourse level maybe we could use it.
