That was good-do you remember the sketch where Al Franken (ugh) was playing Simon and kept going back to "the bow tie" in his debating points. RIP Sen. Paul Simon.

From that thread:
As for red-ink Reagan, he was a nice enough man, so I will not attack him upon his death. However, I will NOT forget the staggering damage he (and his pupeteer Bush) did to this country during his tenure as president. And if they DARED to take FDR off the dime and replaced him with Reagan, I'd file his face off every one I saw.
LOL! Something to do in lieu of a job, I guess.

Met him once. Absolutely clueless, but nice guy
I agree. Paul Simon was a close friend of one of our friends in another life and I had the occasion to meet him several times. Although I disagreed with his politics, I thought he was a nice guy and a decent human being.

A very apt post. Rest in Peace to a decent man, and prayers to his family.

Yeah, but he is still available to run for Senate from Illinois should the dem incumbent be killed or convicted within a month of the election, right?

I disagreed with him on almost any given policy point, but Paul Simon was a man of integrity, civility and class. May he rest in peace.

DU always makes me laugh.... it's like the twisted Bizarro Universe version of FR, where basic concepts of nature and humanity are inverted.
It would be fun to imagine that every individual Freeper has a counterpart over there, but DU's member registration isn't high enough for that. :)

I admit it. What transpires In the NE corner of this country is far from my daily thoughts. I often encourage the poor decent folks who remain in that prison to come down here (Texas) and be free but mostly they ignore me.
Personally I advocate cesession as the NE is beyond salvage. That corner of the nation has been draining the life's blood from us for too long now. If we cut them off they would learn the error of their ways but as long as they have the rest of us to feed off of they will go on and on.

I guess he was trying to take out as many Americans as he could before he left?
Have a nice trip, Senator.

I can't believe I am saying this, but they are atually very respectful -- I was trolling over there (mostly to see what they think of the Gore/dean thing) when I saw the breaking news.

Let's demonstrate that we're better than the DUmmies, and refrain from wisecracks. No doubt most of us disagreed with his politics and wish he hadn't served in the Senate, but I'll still extend condolences to his family.
Amen to that Mountaineer. While I didn't agree with his politics, I believe he was a good intentioned man (although, perhaps misguided). Rest in Peace Senator.

Senator Simon served with honor and integrity ... may he rest in peace.AMEN! Simon was a "true believer" liberal cast in the mold of Adlai Stevenson, so unlike the current crop of RATs.
Take Algore, for example. When he heard people were dying to endorse Dean, he just had to jump right onboard!
