They'd have more of a case if they could show an example of a "pagan faith based group". One that meets the qualification of not trying to preach to or convert the recipients.

Backed up by Americans United for Separation of Church and State, pagans across the U.S. are demanding a Bush administration official apologize for saying pagan groups don't care about the poor. If the AUFSOCAS (or AUSCS) was really against State sponsorship of any religious ties to government they would be opposing the pagans' attempts at faith based charity exemptions. Holding up a fringe religion for inclusion does not make their case AGAINST Church and State ties.
The Washington Post reports since Towey's comment, outraged pagans have bombarded the White House and Internet chat rooms with scores of examples of their charitable activity. Particularly common, they say, are food drives in conjunction with Pagan Pride Day celebrations across the country.
"Once you make it clear to any applicant that public money must go to public purposes and can't be used to promote ideology...
Pagan Pride Day celebrations would appear to promote ideology.

"I haven't run into a pagan faith-based group yet, much less a pagan group that cares for the poor!" Towey responded
So, he hasn't 'run into' any yet -- that makes him a bad guy?
Sounds to me like the anti-American crowd is once again finding an excuse to bellyache.

ROFL!! The ultimate insult in post-Clinton America --You don't care! If Bush had accused them of idol-worship, conducting a Black Mass, or infanticide, it would be taken as a badge of honor. But to not care?? Outrageous!

Ummmm...If pagans don't have any "faith" then how can they be eligible for "faith-based" funds? They're just p...d that Bush did another end around on them and they missed out on some redistributed wealth.
BTW.....I have been lurking for years on this site. Probably one of the originals. So don't flame me for just now registering! I know...I know......but it's just how I am!

At first I thought this was a quote from the article, but a second reading and a reading of the source page failed to find any reference to Pagans not having any faith. I must assume it is your own opinion based on your religious background.
Faith is not restricted to the three Revealed Religions. Those who follow Shinto, Buddhists, Hindus, primitive animist religions and yes even neo-Pagans have faith.

That's not true at all. I know a pagan group out here that is gathering black goth outfits for distribution for the poor from their charity storefront body-piercing shop where they make sure that the impoverished have an opportunity to mutilate their private parts as much as surly, rich, snide, lazy, manic-depressive upperclass teenagers who hang out in clove-cigarette coffee houses do.

I finally get what all this hollering for apologies is about. If we acquiesce, it gives them legitimacy when, in fact, they have none. If they were just ignored, as they should be, soon their complaints would become like the clanking of hollow tin.

True. There isn't such a thing as government "charity". The government should get out of the charity business completely --- including all welfare programs. Let the Christians, pagans and whoever else do their own charity programs.

"I haven't run into a pagan faith-based group yet, much less a pagan group that cares for the poor!" There was a prominent pagan faith-based group around here. They rode motorcycles, sold drugs and killed several young women.
