BAGHDAD, IRAQ - Three soldiers from the Stryker Brigade Combat Team were killed in an accident during a combat patrol in Iraq Sunday night, ABC News reports. A fourth soldier was injured.

The accident occurred after an embankment on an unimproved road collapsed, causing two Stryker infantry carrier vehicles to roll over into a canal. ABC News says it was not a result of hostile fire.

Heavy rainfall in the area might have been a cause, but the Army is still investigating.

The names of those killed have not been released.

My son is in the Stryker Brigade in Iraq. We heard from him this morning, but probably won't hear again for eight weeks.

It's plain old mud, not sugar sand. Heavy rains, slick, sticky mud (yes, it's both at once) and poor roads all play a part. Not to mention that these guys just got in county and haven't adjusted to the terrain.

Sometimes i nearly feel its hypocritical for me to support the war without sacrificing my own flesh and blood for the cause like so many families are doing.

Don't worry about it, ok?

Thank you for the reply. I know the comments are not toward the men and women in the Strykers and never did think so, I do want to thank everyone for all the comments.
My son has wanted to be in the Army since he was 6 or 7 and although I fear for his safety I know he is with others that had the same dream. I know that together they can do the job they were sent to do. I know some of our families will not come back and most will come back hurt in one way or another.
The Freedom that we have to express ourself is that, a freedom. That's what makes this country so great is that we can express ourself in speech and not fear repercussion's or harm for what we have said.
There will still be a lot of hurt and pain do the road, and I think what we are doing and saying we help, We can't go through this alone and shouldn't
Bless our troops and stay strong

I fear it's just a sign of more mishaps to come. I really feel for the crewmembers.

Thanks for all the posts on the strykers. We just found out this morning that my wife's grandson was one of the three killed in the accident. Till I read this we had thought that it was a bridge collapse that put them in the canal.

Anyway it doesn't change my attitude about the dummycrats obstructionist tactics and giving aid and comfort to enemy combatants. When I was in the army we expected to see combat and not to be sent into a war zone to play peace corps. Me thinks that our soldiers are diverted away from doing real recon and preparation to repel attacks by being expected to rebuild a corrupt enemy nation.

My boy recently returned from Iraq, a few (months now) weeks ago. He was almost killed in action. He was in a very active combat unit, and my apprehension concerning his well being was great.

Each time that I read of a slain Troop from over there in this current action in Iraq, I come as close as possible to weeping. Often, of course, I actually do cry.

Perhaps you might visit the USO Canteen FReeper style some time. It helps, or attempts to help with morale, of the Troops, their families, loved ones, and supporters. It is mostly a silly and fun thread, but that is what they like.

I know this. Some Freepers are clearly doubtful, but many of the doubters, do not have investments, such as you and I do, in the mission of our active duty Troops. Once Troop supporters get familiar with the site, they often become quite enhanced with it. At least for me that did happen. I see it in others too. Once they get the hang of the place, the addiction can set in. We try to keep everyone's spirit up. It is a most worthy endeavor, in my opinion!

We provide a lot of information and support over there. You can find the connection to the thread, on the FR.com main page.

Another added to my list.... Your son. Please, give us a name so that I can pray for him by name?

It looks like there are quite a few Stryker families and friends on this thread. We need to ping one another with any breaking news. Bless you!
