BAGHDAD, IRAQ - Three soldiers from the Stryker Brigade Combat Team were killed in an accident during a combat patrol in Iraq Sunday night, ABC News reports. A fourth soldier was injured.
The accident occurred after an embankment on an unimproved road collapsed, causing two Stryker infantry carrier vehicles to roll over into a canal. ABC News says it was not a result of hostile fire.
Heavy rainfall in the area might have been a cause, but the Army is still investigating.
The names of those killed have not been released.

We just saw a pic of a tank in that same scenario here the
other night.
It's weight just crumbled the bank and let it slide in,
wonder if the height of the Stryker had any thing to do with this.

Not a good start for the Stryker Brigade. Damned unfortunate, but this would have happened to any vehicle happening along at that time.
They were just in the wrong place at the wrong time.
May God Bless them and provide comfort to their families.
Moment of silence, please, for fallen heros......

Oh, no.
May their families feel the strength of prayer and may God hold these soldiers close to his heart.

I know this is small consolation, but it is appropiate here.
2 Corinthians 5:1-9
Our Heavenly Dwelling
1. Now we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands.
2. Meanwhile we groan, longing to be clothed with our heavenly dwelling,
3. because when we are clothed, we will not be found naked.
4. For while we are in this tent, we groan and are burdened, because we do not wish to be unclothed but to be clothed with our heavenly dwelling, so that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life.
5. Now it is God who has made us for this very purpose and has given us the Spirit as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.
6. Therefore we are always confident and know that as long as we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord.
7. We live by faith, not by sight.
8. We are confident, I say, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord.
9. So we make it our goal to please him, whether we are at home in the body or away from it.

Can't tell. Someone with vehicle stats, help us out.
I would think more along the lines of soil conditions, then anything else. Even the Hummers do the slide with this sugar sand.

And so it begins.
They did roll at least one at NTC last year.

Not to make light of this serious accident, but we joked about putting automatic training wheels on them. Have them automatically deployed when the vehicle tilt meter reached a certain point.

The Stryker is notoriously unstable.
It has been restricted to improved road surfaces due to it's propensity to roll.
My favorite from the article: "Heavy rainfall in the area might have been a cause, but the Army is still investigating."
They should investigate the fact that the whistle blowers during it's development were silenced andf the program shoved forward regardless of it's obvious problems.

They do have a large profile. I thought the central tire inflation system might help a bit. Wonder if we'll ever see the accident report. There are the families of over 3500 soldiers at Lewis dreading that phone call tonight, and the commanders of 5 other BDE's watching every report out of Iraq on these guys...

Really oh crap.
Two seconds ago my wife just showed me two articles featuring her first-cousin Vincent, who is with the Ft. Lewis Stryker Brigade.
