I'm Looking for "Patriot Act" Success Stories
Posted on 12/08/2003 12:16:58 PM PST by PureSolace
All week long I've been talking with other students at the school I go to about the pros and cons of the Patriot Act, and I was wondering if any freepers had any information to contribute. Does anyone have a list of success stories or embarrassments because of the Patriot Act? From the searches that I've done it seems most of the websites on the net are anti Patriot Act because they say it can be abused and target regular everyday citizens, and even peaceful protesters? (That one baffled me) Anyway, Any information or insight you guys can give would be wonderful. Thanks :)

Is see that you are easily befuddled. Look, one can both fight terrorism while fighting infringements upon freedom. In fact it's a good idea, since the two are related. It's logically and morally consistent.
islam, communism, and chicom style mercantilism represent oppressive, freedom restricting ideologies. A representative republic with a clearly written (easy to read and understand) Constitution enumerating LIMITED powers of government is the natural ideology of a free people.
Enabling the creation of an oppressive, freedom restricting goverment domestically for the purposes of fighting other oppressive, freedom restricting governments is simply a waste of life and resources. If you are going to erect a tyrant to protect you from other tyrants, then what's the point? It is a futile excercise in carnage. Sacrificing the flower of a generation for nought.
Were the citizens of this nation allowed to enjoy our full 2nd amendment rights, the terrorists among us (whether criminal or islamic) would become quickly and forcefully extinct.

Anthrax letters were mailed after 9/11, causing a few casualties. Al Fuqra associated Mohammad and Malvo killed many in their DC Sniper attacks. Richard Reid tried (and failed only due to diligent passengers) to blow up an airliner with his sneaker bomb."
All of those occured after the Patriot Act kicked in?

Try and focus...
Are you prepared to acknowledge that capabilities the Justice Department and INS now have as a result of the Patriot Act enable them to find individuals who are here from other countries and acting in ways that are illegal?
Also, do you agree that we face the legitimate threat of Nuclear, Chemical or Biological terrorism from more than just China?

What is with the Vietnam clique that Schizophrenia and drug use excuse making seem to be a large part of your character?
You guys'll have to forgive me for not being part of the generation that punked out on God and completely screwed this country up from top to bottom. And then, as if that wasnt enough, to go on and compound the dimentia by holding fast to the notion that you can teach my generation what is right or wrong.
I think my generation has handled things a hell of alot better than yours ever dreamed of, so lose the condescension over your age and therefore implied wisdom.

All of those occured after the Patriot Act kicked in?September 18, 2001: Letters to Senator Tom Daschle sent carrying Anthrax. Another sent to Senator Patrick Leahy, postmarked October 9.
October 25, 2001: HR 3162 - USA Patriot Act passed by Congress.
October 26, 2001: President Bush signed the USA PATRIOT Act.
December 22, 2001: a Paris-to-Miami flight made an emergency landing in Boston after a Richard Reid tried to blow up his sneakers: a terrorism attempt by way of Get Smart.
October, 2002: For 23 days, from October 2 to October 25, numerous people are killed by Al Fuqra-connected John Allen Muhammad and John Lee Malvo.
Two cases of terrorism occurred after the Patriot Act was signed and implmented into law by the President.
Your major thesis is still completely incorrect.

What is with the Vietnam clique that Schizophrenia and drug use excuse making seem to be a large part of your character? We, who fought in Vietnam, fought for our country, for our brothers, for our honor, and for our freedom. We did not fight so some totalitarian could take those freedoms under the guise of security. You have no conception of freedom, nor of honor, and we can't presume to tell your generation $hit, mainly because that's all they already understand. $hit!

So in other words....zero [0] terrorist attacks from Al Qaeda terrorists in the United States since the Patriot Act was placed in force.
But 100s of foreigners deported from the counry since then.

I think my generation has handled things a hell of alot better than yours ever dreamed of... Prove this.
so lose the condescension over your age and therefore implied wisdom.
So what's with the "grow up Bro" crap from your end? You started that condescension angle all by yourself. I was pointing it out to you. Is that the only thing to which you were capable of responding?
Now, since you are so much better prepared for life than I, how about answering my questions in a rational matter. Try to convince me that your view is correct, rather than attacking me personally. Of course, you'd have to do that leftest thing and attack me personally if you have no substance to discuss. Right?
The essense of political discussion is exchange of ideas. I don't see that you have attempted to do this in any of your posts. Explain how resonable compromise can be reached in this manner.
Perhaps your generation can't approach the issues after all.

BTW, I gave you a pass on changing your major thesis from
0 [zero] Terrorists attacks in the United States since September 11th, 2001to
0 [zero] Terrorists attacks in the United States since the Patriot Act was placed in force. I believed that this could be an honest initial misstatement.
But to see you subsequently limit your statement after-the-fact to Al Qaeda operations only, it becomes apparant that you will employ fallacies and other intellecual dishonesties to try to make flawed points.

Richard Reid did not carry out a terrorist attack in the United States or anywhere else [lighting your shoe on fire and catching a beatdown from a female flight attendant doesnt qualify as a terrorist attack in anyone's book]...his attempt was thwarted, therefore his was not a terrorist attack since the Patriot Act was signed into law...now who is feigning intellectual honesty?
There have been zero terrorist attacks in the United States since September 11th 2001. You're assuming the Anthrax attacks werent part of the 9/11 attacks. I [and a great many others] assume they were.
The two disgruntled black guys werent anything you could associate with the concept of terrorism that the Patriot Act was meant to thwart.

Perhaps my generation has grown dismissive of blowhards attempting to lecture us on topics that my 5 year old nephew would instinctively reject.
Get a solid foundation to stand on and then we can give and take all day long. Kneejerk ramblings concerning pseudo jackbooted government stormtroopers riding metal horses and wiping their *** with the Constitution is not a solid foundation.
