BLUFF CITY (AP) -- The Confederate battle flag has been banned from display at Sullivan East High School.
Principal Mary Rouse declined to comment about her decision.
But Sullivan County Schools Director John O'Dell said she was within her rights.
O'Dell said some Sullivan East students were not comfortable with the presence of the flag.
Students, teachers and administrators in the school system are now undergoing sensitivity training.
The Justice Department mandated the training after two black former students sued over racial harassment.

Sullivan East High School bans Confederate battle flag
8-Dec-2003
BLUFF CITY, Tenn. - The Confederate battle flag has been banned from display at Sullivan East High School.
Principal Mary Rouse declined to comment about her decision, but Sullivan County Schools Director John O'Dell said she was within her rights.
O'Dell said some Sullivan East students were not comfortable with the presence of the flag.
"You're kind of in the middle between freedom of expression and the principal's right to say that at this point in time it is distracting," O'Dell said. "The courts have been clear on that. Principals have the right to ban those."
As part of the settlement of a civil rights lawsuit, students, staff, teachers and administrators throughout the entire school system this year began the first of four years of sensitivity training.

I'd get a rebel flag just to piss off the principal if I lived there, and I'm a Yankee.

O'Dell said some Sullivan East students were not comfortable with the presence of the flag. I wasn't comfortable with the concept of homework when I was in high school. I wish I had known that I could have just told the principal that it offended me and had it eliminated.

I think they should put in a counter suit for bigotry against ethnic Southerners.

I'm from the South and am offended!!!
Get a grip, folks. Anyone who is "offended" by that flag needs a serious history lesson. It isn't, and never has been about racism.

When are they going to begin executing those that choose to fly the flag?

Sensitivity training is the politically correct term for what the Chicoms called brain washing. It is a favorite leftist technique to stiffle free expression.

Yeah, you're an OK Yankee, Dan: you go home after your visits!
