Get a complete pre-admission physical including a blood work-up to establish non-infection immediately prior to the day he enters the hospital; also, if warranted, have him put aside a bit of his own blood. One can't be too careful, these days.

A young girl in our church just went through this same procedure only the cyst was in the back. In her case they found that they have to come up with another solution but she was out of the hospital that same day and as good as new in about 10 days.
I will keep your son in my prayers.
