After a year, a column written by Paul Crespo, a former Marine officer, Cuban American and the Miami Herald's only conservative columnist has been canceled, allegedly for "budget reasons." We learned that recently Crespo was told by the Herald that his twice-monthly column will no longer appear in the paper despite what he called "an amazing show of support from so many in the South Florida community." "During my year at The Herald (including three months as a member of the Editorial Board), I have endeavored to use my varied international experiences and education to provide insightful opinions and analysis on a variety of national and international topics," Crespo wrote, adding that he believed he had articulated "the views of patriotic fellow Americans, people of faith and freedom-fighting fellow Cuban Americans who have not had a regular voice in South Florida's major news daily." Noting that his columns have been cited as "provocative," a "breath of fresh air" and a "reasonable right wing view," no doubt he has provided much-needed balance and perspective to the Herald's left-leaning editorial pages. Crespo's articles also have been gaining increasing national and international exposure from being distributed throughout the U.S., Latin America and elsewhere. Crespo will meet with the Herald's publisher Alberto Ibarguen, in the coming days. We hope the paper has second thoughts.
Their budget problems will only worsen now.
