The fraud that is OU Football exposed tonight - USC and LSU should meet for the championship
dateline: Texas Stadium | 12/6/03 | Jamail Holloway's fur coat at the Orange Bowl

Congrats to K. State, Big 12 Champs. They spanked the pompous overrated Sooners 35-7 tonight in the Big 12 Championship game. Meanwhile USC and LSU continued to roll with big wins(52-28 and 34-13(with 3 minutes left, respectively.)

No way should OU be chosen by the BCS to play in the Sugar Bowl, the pollsters and computers should drop them hard to at least #3(Michigan is probably better, but they do have 2 losses.) What a fraud the BCS is, can anyone reasonable prove that OU is better than LSU and USC, both of who have dominated late in the season? Yet just like with Nebraska a few years ago, OU will probably back in based on bogus prior rankings, overrated hype, and a scam of a system.

OU didn't just lose, they got their butts whooped. If they had lost by just a few points, one could make a decent argument that perhaps they below in the mythical national championship game. But not after this lame performance, and the impressive play of USC and LSU in the last month. 2 teams are going up, 1 is going down. But once again, the BCS is probably going to show how utterly bogus it is. Besides, I'd say its 50-50 that right now Michigan could beat them all, just as with USC the year before.

Without a playoff, its all just figure skating.

the BCS in hands down the best system that College Football has ever had...the previous bowl affiliation was terrible with #20 playing #1, etc....

so its either the BCS or a playoff...i personally HATE the idea of a playoff system as the regular season and especially the last couple games of a season could become meaningless.

I hope you were equally appalled when the Aggies ran up the score on Baylor in their 73-10 victory.

Why does it have to be a 8 team playoff? I think a 4 team playoff would get the best 2 teams in there.

The big problem is always #3 and #4. One of them is always shortchanged. You have a tougher argument that #5 is the best team in the country.

Just have a four team playoff, #1 v #4, 2 v #3. Just 2 games. Heck, they could hold them next week. Have two bowl games reserved each year. One for #1, one for #3. Problem solved better. Not perfect, but manageable.

An ESPN "BCS expert", because of LSU's strength of schedule vs. Southern Cal's, has LSU playing OU in the Sugar Bowl.

A Boise St. win over Hawaii seals the deal.

Actually a playoff system would only need to add 2 weeks after the bowls. Take the 4 BCS bowl winners, match them up in 2 semi-finals, and then have a REAL national championship game. Make the semi-finals into home games for the 2 highest ranked teams coming out of the BCS bowls, but have a caveat that a conference champ gets to host over a wildcard(even if the wildcard is ranked higher), thus keeping more meaning to the regular season and conf. champ. Then play the national championship at a neutral site bowl, so the BCS goes from 4 to 5 bowls, rotated among those bowls that are interested(the Rose may not want to give up New Years Day, even for the NC game.)

That gives us an easy 8 team playoff, with little disruption and minimal impact on the existing bowls.

If 8 isn't enough, it can later be expanded out to include conf. champ games and wildcard playoffs(using other existing bowls).

Here's my proposal from a couple of years ago:

A playoff that saves the bowls and quiets the critics

I'll gladly give up a Fiesta Bowl berth to see that classless Stoops denied
a place in the Sugar Bowl.

Diddle E. Squat,
Even if I'm a modest Sooner fan, I agree.
Stoops and team should get a smack for having lost to the Mild-Cats.

And this Longhorn usually enjoys a good Aggie loss.

Stoops has some sort of blind-spot. I guess he thought that when he and the team
made it past Oklahoma State this year, they already owned the crown.
Guess again, Stoops. Another bunch of Aggies just sunk your battleship.

OBTW, Larry Fitzgerald for the Heisman.

Agreed. Too bad a fair number of Heisman voters have already mailed in their ballots
(according to ESPN radio this past week).

Franchione is a weasel who will replicate the 'Jackie Sherrill experience' at A&M.

Agreed. Franchione played fast and loose with both TCU and Alabama. It is nice to see his comeuppance.

Then again, given Baylor football, how can a school avoid running up the score.

I wonder if Cedric Benson is breaking into an apartment as we speak, looking for a TV to watch the Fiesta Bowl on...

LSU is playing the best football of the three right now, but who knows what the computers will say?

I hate to admit it, but Texas has no defense. They were lucky to beat K-State and a rusty QB coming off an injury.

LOL...I'm a Tech-ex living in Oklahoma so I have no dog in this fight...my dog got neutered weeks ago. I suspect Texas fans are bitter about OU's loss because it denies UT a BCS bowl.

That's funny, but be fair--he was looking for his TV that was stolen and even the police said that the guy was the main suspect in the case.

Not that he should have barged in like that, but it's not like he was there to steal a TV---he was looking for his property.

"I just find the amount of emotion and illogic put into sports conversations that I pay attention to it ouf of amusement."

Well, would you tell me if this is logical?

On the last game of the season #1 OU gets its clock cleaned by #15 K State.

#2 USC as expected beats a bumbling, unranked opponent Oregon State. Plus USC's victory over Notre Dame is deminished by ND's loss today to Syracuse. Plus USC's victory over Hawaii will probably be deminished by an Hawaii defeat at the hands of Boise State in Hawaii later tonight. Finally, everybody's #3 LSU soundly defeats everybody's #5 Georgia in Georgia.

Yet folks are still talking USC and OU.

To me it's got to be LSU vs. USc.

Nope. Every 'horn I've talked to tonight has been savory this OU butt-beating, and the fact that it probably knocks them out of the mythical national title game.

Misery loves company...

Three teams now have one loss. Two of them are playing their best football as late in the season as it gets, December 6, 2003.

Those two teams are USC and LSU!

Here's my plan....

Divide the playoffs into regional contests between Conference Champions... ACC vs. SEC, Big East vs. Independents, PAC-10 vs. WAC. Big 12 vs. Big 10. Sun Belt vs. Mid-America. Conference USA vs. Mtn West.

Rotate these matchups every year to make in interesting, if you like.

Set the first round of these games up in late December in traditional bowl games. Single elimination tournament play every week until Early January, just before school starts again. May the best team win!

Best case scenario to screw the BCS:

Oklahoma - LSU in the Sugar Bowl
Michigan - USC in the Rose Bowl

Depending on the outcomes, the national "champion" could emerge from the Rose Bowl and not the Sugar! It could happen with a lackluster game in the Sugar Bowl and a dominating winner in the Rose. Heck, even Michigan could emerge at the top!
