Congrats to K. State, Big 12 Champs. They spanked the pompous overrated Sooners 35-7 tonight in the Big 12 Championship game. Meanwhile USC and LSU continued to roll with big wins(52-28 and 34-13(with 3 minutes left, respectively.)
No way should OU be chosen by the BCS to play in the Sugar Bowl, the pollsters and computers should drop them hard to at least #3(Michigan is probably better, but they do have 2 losses.) What a fraud the BCS is, can anyone reasonable prove that OU is better than LSU and USC, both of who have dominated late in the season? Yet just like with Nebraska a few years ago, OU will probably back in based on bogus prior rankings, overrated hype, and a scam of a system.
OU didn't just lose, they got their butts whooped. If they had lost by just a few points, one could make a decent argument that perhaps they below in the mythical national championship game. But not after this lame performance, and the impressive play of USC and LSU in the last month. 2 teams are going up, 1 is going down. But once again, the BCS is probably going to show how utterly bogus it is. Besides, I'd say its 50-50 that right now Michigan could beat them all, just as with USC the year before.
Without a playoff, its all just figure skating.

Hey Doug,
No hard feelings, but the team that will be ranked #1 in the Country will be Oklahoma.
The #2 team will be LSU.
Two components of the Rankings, AP and ESPN/USAToday have USC #1 but other components will have OU #1 and still others LSU #1.
But take heart, if USC beats Michigan in the Rose Bowl, the post season Rankings will be USC #1 by the AP (writers) and the winner of the Sugar Bowl will be #1 in the ESPN/USAToday poll.
Hense a good old fashion oxymoron "Dual Champions."

OU cant still provide a split national champion with an unconvincing win over LSU in the Burbon Bowl and a USC demolition of Michigan in the Rose.

"The Nokia Sugar Bowl on January 4, 2004, will host the BCS National Championship Game and determine which team will be presented The National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame's ADT National Championship Trophy." Don't see NCAA anywhere in this statement.

Thanks for the info. As dominant as they were, it is a little hard to see that a team losing 35-7 in their conference championship could be No. 1. The Trojans blew a game against the Bears that they should have won. They will forever regret that. Anyway, we should have two incredible bowl games.

The NCAA's records are, I believe, the "official" record of national champions. And I'm pretty certain the NCAA's National Champion will reflect the winner of the BCS Championship Game.
To: NittanyLion
But the NCAA has no sway over the writers, who crown their version of the National Championship

I don't disagree. My point is that the winner of the Sugar Bowl will be the official National Champion. USC can claim they're the "AP Poll National Champion" but the records will not reflect them as such.
To: NittanyLion
Correct, the Waterford Crystal goes to the winner of the Bourbon Bowl. (and it will be that this year, with Elle-sss-uuu playing)

Still sore about the Horns being tossed out of the BCS picture on their ears?

Beaver Stadium has a sign stating that Penn State is the "1994 New York Times National Champion"...small consolation after those [Kerry impersonation-deleted] Cornhuskers stole what was rightfully ours.

"The NCAA's records are, I believe, the "official" record of national champions. And I'm pretty certain the NCAA's National Champion will reflect the winner of the BCS Championship Game." Visit http://ncaa.org/ click on "Post Season Bowl Information" Now click on FAQ and read Question #1.
I am a rabid LSU fan, got a grant in aid to play for them in 1966...wasn't good enough. So I'm biased but still objective. There is a reason they call it the "Mythical National Championship."
Now I hope the Tigers win on 1/4/04 and I hope USC loses on 1/1/04, but IMHO it isn't a championship unless it is decided on the scoreboard.

I don't see the link on the homepage...do I need to click something else first?

Thanks! So I guess in the NCAA's eyes, there is no National Champion. You learn something every day...thanks for setting me straight.

bump
How can OU play when they did NOT win a conference? Should be the PAC-10 champ vs. the BIG 12 champ.
To: NittanyLion
Are you kidding Joe Pa lets that in his stadium.. New York Times National Champion??

USC is now #1 in both the AP and Coaches Poll
Prediction:
Sugar Bowl:
OU 38 LSU 17
There is no way they lose two games in a row and they will be looking for redemption. You do not want to have to play them after last night's performance. There was no motivation for them to win last night. OU was in the NC game regardless of the outcome.
Rose Bowl:
USC 45 UM 24
The Trojans will be pissed too and will drill the Wolverines. Too many good athletes and young to boot. Next years outright NC.
Another split NC. USC will be ranked #1 in one poll and OU in the other. If USC rolls Michigan and the winner of the Sugar Bowl is 16-13 or 10-7 squeaker the Trojans should get the NC outright. The BCS is not a solution. WE NEED A PLAYOFF. >:-(

I have to agree...actually I think we should go back to conference bowl affiliations. This whole BCS nonsense has accomplished nothing (as seen this year), and the institutions like the Rose Bowl are being devalued by the loss of tradition. Another alternative would be to play out the bowls under the old conference format, than select the best two teams left to play in the Nat'l Championship the following week. The final alternative would be to simply have Penn State and Rutgers play for the championship every year...
To: NittanyLion
Why Rutgers instead of Notre Dame? (lol)

It surprised me too the first time I saw it...there's a big billboard that used to be on the south end of the stadium (it may have been moved after their recent renovations) that read just that, and also had a rose on it. Now, we did get robbed that year, but that's no excuse.
