Currently F.D.R. is beating Reagan 74% to 26% regarding CNN.com's new poll: "Whose image should be on the dime?" F.D.R. is the anthithesis of all we stand for, and his New Deal has been a Raw Deal. Monticello's apparently going to be shed from the back of the nickel, and isn't it time that Mr. Tax-cuts Reagan replaced the Donkeys' favorite socialist president?

It would seem that this poll deserves your vote even if Reagan isn't your favorite conservative president. I voted in it even though George HERBERT Walker Bush is probably my favorite conservative president, not his predecessor Ronnie. Why? Well, Bush Sr. negotiated NAFTA (forcing U.S. labor unions to straighten up a little), liberated the internet for commerce (before Clinton inherited the .com boom), and proposed Mars colonization before subsequently firing the NASA Administrator who handed him a ludicrous half a trillion dollar proposed pricetag. Not bad, considering how he was bogged down by a partisan Democrat congress, huh?

I've seen lots of CNN polls, but I've never seen 30,000 people vote on it. Methinks this poll is B.S.

I regularly see that many "people" vote on CNN's polls. The figures are up exponentially from 1999. I tend to wonder if something's fishy too. But our vote can make a difference, regardless. Why? At the moment the Reagan replacement initiative's getting disparaged. However, I noticed once before how an unfavorable anti-liberal result caused them to remove a poll of theirs on whether or not race should guarantee certain ethnic minorities government contracting set-asides.

Nancy Reagan -
"While I can understand the intentions of those seeking to place my husband's face on the dime, I do not support this proposal and I am certain Ronnie would not," the former first lady said in a statement released Friday.
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1035177/posts I'll go vote...
...for FDR.

Maybe it's mere modesty and a desire not to have Reagan's name drawn through the mud when he can hardly remain awake. A vote for FDR is a vote for legitimizing liberalism for future generations. We need to privatize social security, not glorify the politician who selfishly imposed it on us.

Isn't there some law against depicting a living person on U.S. currency?

While it WOULD be nice to piss off the liberals by removing FDR, I'd much rather see Reagan on Mt. Rushmore.

When dimes go back to being made out of pure silver, Reagan should be on them.
Otherwise, FDR is more fitting. We have him to thank for our fiat currency.

Absolutely on point: Reagan's honorable likeness should be kept off of fiat Federal Reserve Notes and debased coinage alike. Keep it in reserve for a day -- if it ever comes -- when Congress restores constitutional coinage.

Nancy Reagan -
"It is my hope that the proposed legislation will be withdrawn."
Maybe it's from an intelligent woman who realizes that future generations deciding to change the honors bestowed by a previous generation can lead to her husband being removed from anything dedicated to President Reagan?
Went back, tricked CNN's site, voted again...
... for FDR.

I'm probably gonna get flamed for this, but:
IMO this is the wrong time to fight this fight. Reagan lives. Let him be 10 years or so at rest, before we consider fighting to engrave his image on our currency.
Maybe, then, we should consider proposing him for the $10 bill. Liberals hate Alexander Hamilton anyway. Or the $20; liberals would be hard pressed, today, to "defend" Andrew Jackson. And the $20 is a heck of a lot more prominent than is the dime. Who really looks at dimes??

Where is none of the above? I don't like the idea of presidents on coins. Since that was not available I voted for Reagan.

So you dont credit FDR with saving this country from facism and communism during the 30's and 40's. Without his new deal, we would likely have gotten something much worse. There were a lot of nuts of both the right and left that were running around in the 30's with dictatorial designs. Without his preparation for and guiding us into World War II, Hitler would have conquered all of Europe and Japan all of Asia before we wised up to the threat.
FDR was Ronald Reagan's favorite President. Nancy is not in favor of replacing FDR on the dime and she says Ronnie wouldnt be in favor it either. I expect she knows his wishes better than we. Got nothing better to do then fight the political battles of two generations ago?

I'd have to DISAGREE with Nancy on this one...

There's obviously no law against naming a national airport after a living person. If there is regarding currency, the same Republicans in Congress can fix that too at least through creating a special exception.
To: Wumpus Hunter
Lincoln, Washington and Jefferson are on our currency AND Mt. Rushmore, aren't they?
