Top Saddam general shot dead From correspondents in Baghdad 06Dec03

GUNMEN shot dead today a former secret police general who had been in charge of western Baghdad under ousted strongman Saddam Hussein, a witness told said.

General Khalaf Alussi died at his home under a hail of bullets fired by four men, said Wissam Idan, a 24-year-old building worker at the house in the capital's al-Yarmuk area. The general, who died on the spot, headed the feared secret police in the al-Kharkh district on the west bank of the Tigris river.

At the hospital where the body was taken, his brother, Raed Abdulkarim, confirmed the killing, adding that the gunmen had fled.

"He died immediately," Adulkarim said.

Better wait to see who killed him and why.

Dollars to doughnuts it was a revenge killing.

I'm just surprised that coalition forces didn't scoop him up earlier (this guy was living at home).

"For all we know, this could've been one of our best buds."

Perhaps, but just imagine what an animal like this has done to Iraqi citizens. You don't get to be head of Saddams police without killing innocent Iraqi's.

With out question, but the wager doesn't stipulate who is the good and who is the bad guy.

I suspect the man got religion in the not to distant past and the devil came calling.

So why was he living in his home rather than a 4' by 7' cage in Guantanamo?

It does not say when he headed the secret police. Perhaps he retired several years ago, and was not considered relevant by the US.

It amazes me that these people think they can just stay in their homes and nobody is going to come after them. People remember, I really don't understand how these men can forget what they've done.

Excellent!

Nothing like a lot good street justice to balance the books in Iraq and to stop the bad guys permanently.

We are getting close to some very big fish over there. This guy chose to go out this way instead of living with the alternative.
