Please, help me pray...

Posted on 12/05/2003 1:13:53 PM PST by getmeouttaPalmBeachCounty_FL

Dear fellow FReepers,

I humbly ask for your help.

I am well aware that FR is a gathering place for people of conservative mind & spirit. I have grown in friendship with many of you...through laughter, through activism, through discussions, through prayer. I have come here to vent frustration, to seek change, and to stop things from changing. I have come here for news, for insight, for camraderie, to hug and to be hugged, to share thoughts & events, to seek guidance.

Today, I come to you seeking prayer -- prayer for my father-in-law and my husband. Having two young children to care for, my energies need to be focused on caring for them. Yet, while even knowing that, I feel so helpless a thousand miles from our family ground zero. This is why I come here to ask you to help me hold up my father-in-law to the Lord, in prayer.

A few weeks ago, we were dealing with what we believed to be depression and severe alcohol consumption by my father-in-law. A Naval Academy graduate & military retiree with a Masters Degree, his post active duty years have been plagued with "last hired, first fired." How many times he has lost jobs, and interviews to candidates decades younger, hearing the phrase that he's overly-qualified. His most recent job loss occurred this past summer.

Getting back to the "what we believed..."

Two weeks ago, my father-in-law was hospitalized, and placed in intensive care. He has been in a coma ever since. He was intubated a week ago, and the prospect of any recovery at this point keeps growing slimmer. His kidneys are failing, his liver is barely functioning. There is so much else going on in the wings, which creates a scenario for a Sunday Night Movie.

My father-in-law is a good man. He is very kind-hearted. He is of the mentality to not ask others for help. I understand, as well, that with alcoholism, many do not ask for help. How ironic that he has spent a lifetime of giving to others, yet he wouldn't let anyone experience that joy in helping him.

My father-in-law began his giving nature at an age when no one should have to. At nearly two years of age, his father was killed in Pearl Harbor. My father-in-law spent the first part of his career serving this country in our military. He is a conservative to the bone. His son, and my husband, is also an Academy grad, and is active in the Marine Reserves. He is away right now, at a flight school learning to fly yet another aircraft for our military. Today was the first time I heard him say that he will probably ask to be released from the course to go and be with his dad. Tomorrow, my father-in-law should be sitting in his seat for the Army-Navy (go Navy!) game.

And so...I ask for your prayers. I turn here because I have seen miracles here. And I know there are many here who understand the greatness of this need.

"God is our refuge and strength-an ever present help in trouble."--Psalm 46:1

Lord, be the strength for our dear sister, her husband, and especially her father-in-law just now. We ask for her father-in-law to be healed of his sicknesses, and to be restored to health, to once again see Your provision for him. Make his liver strong and his kidneys function well once again, so that he might know the love You have for him.
Help this young man as he goes to be with his father. These men have risked much to defend us--we ask that you reward them for their service.

And for our sister, tasked with the care of two little ones, we ask that she rest completely on Your strength for the days ahead. Our faith is in You Lord and no other.

Your father-in-law is fortunate to have such a loving daughter-in-law. I will pray for your miracle, and for the strength to accept God's best plan for a good man who has served others, with what has obviously included a great deal of love, his entire life.

I will pray that it is not time to let him go. That he be allowed to stay with those that need his love and comfort.
With people that love him, and honor him, with such concern and devotion.

You have my prayers, I understand very well what depression and the feeling of betrayal feels like.

Tell your husband that if his leaving flight school will wash him out, his father will never forgive himself for that. Stick in there if he has to.

I said a prayer for your FIL. You are right: just focus on your adorable kids, hug them tight, and you and yours will get through this. Hang in there, hon.

Beloved Father of Us, Your Children,

Father, we are on bended knee petitioning for the life of our brother, the father-in-law of the one known to us as 'getmeouttaPalmBeachCounty_FL.' We do not know what your plan is for this magnificent servant of Freedom, but if it is according to your Will, we ask that he be allowed to stay with us a bit longer. If he has not yet completed the assignments you have for him, please intercede and let him have a miracle of healing. Send forth your healing energies into that liver, into those kidneys, into all major organs, into that heart! Heal that circulatory system and that respiratory system and all body systems out of balance at this time! Shatter ALL opposition to your Will for this man! We are grateful for your grace and your inclined ear.

Surround now your servant's son, who is ready to disrupt his training in order to be with his father. Please, Father, let ONLY your divine plan for him and his entire family unfold. Bind and judge any and all which opposes the lifestreams of this family.

Father, we have come to trust the profound caring you have for each of us. You ARE our beloved Father, and you have never ever given us a stone when we have asked you for Bread. We are grateful for your Will outplaying in our lives. We may sometimes not fully appreciate your Plan as it unfolds, but grant us a measure of faith and Vision to stay hallowed in a sphere of trust that all will be well.

We ask that our prayers are adjusted and placed in alignment with your Holy Will so that we may never pray amiss. We further ask that all which we call forth for this situation, we call forth for any and all who are in a situation of similar need.

Amen

Father, surround getme's husband during this time.
