Former Sen. Paul Simon Awaits Heart Surgery, Endorses Dean From Hospital Bed The Associated Press
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) - Former Sen. Paul Simon has been hospitalized for a heart condition. The 75-year-old Simon was admitted to St. John's Hospital after suffering shortness of breath on Thursday, when he had planned to announce his endorsement of Democratic presidential contender Howard Dean.
Simon, who sought the Democratic presidential nomination in 1988, went ahead with the announcement in a telephone conference call, but he didn't tell reporters he was speaking from a hospital bed.
Simon said by telephone Friday he will undergo a single or double bypass operation on Monday, as well as have a leaky heart valve repaired.
Simon, who runs the Public Policy Institute at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, underwent coronary artery bypass surgery in January 1999.

In 1988 I sat next to his wife on a flight from Austin Chicago and found her to be a wonderful down to earth person. She was very much a social liberal but just seemed was as nice of a person as I have ever met. So?? Yawnn...
Just because someone is evil doesn't mean they are unpleasant. I'm sure Hitler was quite amiable to his officers and to the people who would adore him in the crowd.
So what's your point?

Mrs. Simon is lost her husband this afternoon. Could you please find it in you to show some respect for her and not compare her to Adolf Hitler? BTW-My point is that people on this website that trash the sick or dead based on polical philosophy on no better than the punks on DU or the pigs that produced the mini series on the Reagan family.

Thanks for saying so. I definitely agree.
I think we can disagree with the politics of an individual without trashing them, certainly in a sad situation like this.
There are honorable people on both sides of the political aisle. There are also rapacious, self-centered, lying jerkballs (we can all name a few). Mr. Simon, based on what little I've seen, is an honorable person who deserves better than some of the postings on this thread.

I'm too dumb, I suppose, to fully comprehend the gravity of your
gravitas or to imagine who p!$$ed in your corn flakes todasy, but I can offer one piece of advice:
When your halo gets too heavy for your head and neck, you can stick it where the sun don't shine. And then you can ensure true balance in your life -- depending on where you stand or sit....
