Former Sen. Paul Simon Awaits Heart Surgery, Endorses Dean From Hospital Bed The Associated Press
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) - Former Sen. Paul Simon has been hospitalized for a heart condition. The 75-year-old Simon was admitted to St. John's Hospital after suffering shortness of breath on Thursday, when he had planned to announce his endorsement of Democratic presidential contender Howard Dean.
Simon, who sought the Democratic presidential nomination in 1988, went ahead with the announcement in a telephone conference call, but he didn't tell reporters he was speaking from a hospital bed.
Simon said by telephone Friday he will undergo a single or double bypass operation on Monday, as well as have a leaky heart valve repaired.
Simon, who runs the Public Policy Institute at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, underwent coronary artery bypass surgery in January 1999.

reminds me of a Seinfeld snippet when George thinks he's having a heart attack in a diner, and then is complaining to the waitress about a mistake in the bill
too funny

Did he have to cancel the rest of the tour with Garfunkel?

Rather than making tasteless jokes about the Senator I will pray for his speedy recovery.

OK, we acknowledge your moral superiority.
To: jsbankston
We not only wish him good health, but hope he sees the error of his political views, too.
To: jsbankston
I will pray for him as well like any decent person but being from southern Illinois I will never forgive this man for ruining the coal industry here.

It's guys like you that make Free Republic great. However, if you think that was tasteless, check this out:

Senator Simon is the one who brought Anita Hill to testify against Clarence Thomas.

Rather than making tasteless jokes about the Senator I will pray that his terminal sinus infection is also cured.

Few people know that after I got rid of that loser Art Garfunkel, I got myself elected Senator from Illinois. Hey, if Hillary, who's from Illinois, can be elected Senator from New York, why can't I, a New Yorker, be elected Senator from Illinois?
To: Richard Kimball
Unfortunate about the cat, but that made me Laugh Out Loud.

Now that is funny. Making jokes about sick people liberal or conservative is not funny.

One foot in the grave and he wants the whole country to join him. What a man.
To: Richard Kimball
Sorry folks, I don't think this one is funny. I love animals too much(please don't read anything else into that)

In 1988 I sat next to his wife on a flight from Austin Chicago and found her to be a wonderful down to earth person. She was very much a social liberal but just seemed was as nice of a person as I have ever met.

Is he wearing "the bow" tie into surgery?
