Report: Video Puts Suspect At Mall Where Sjodin Worked Police Sergeant: Tape Shows Rodriguez In Lot When College Student Disappeared
POSTED: 7:04 a.m. EST December 5, 2003
UPDATED: 7:16 a.m. EST December 5, 2003
Authorities in North Dakota have tapes placing kidnapping suspect Alfonso Rodriguez in the mall parking lot from which authorities believe University of North Dakota student Dru Sjodin was abducted last month, a Minneapolis newspaper reported.
According to a report on the Minneapolis Star Tribune newspaper's Web site, Grand Forks police Sgt. Mike Hedlund said the tapes show the 50-year-old kidnapping suspect in a Grand Forks mall parking lot at the same time Sjodin, 22, disappeared Nov. 22. Hedlund said that hopes of finding Sjodin alive fade with each passing day.
The Star Tribune also reported that a knife sheath was found in the parking lot.
The St. Paul Pioneer Press, citing sources close to the investigation, reported Thursday night on its Web site that police found a blood sample in Rodriguez's car that matched Sjodin's blood type in a preliminary DNA analysis. A more extensive analysis is under way, the newspaper reported.
Another newspaper, the Grand Forks Herald, reported that Rodriguez didn't show up for work the day Sjodin went missing.
Rodriguez, a three-time convicted rapist from nearby Crookston, Minn., is being held on a $5 million bond. His attorney said on Thursday that Rodriguez wants to stay behind bars for his own safety.
The prosecutor said there's little chance he would offer to cut a deal with Rodriguez in exchange for information to help search for Sjodin.
Police say Sjodin likely was on her cell phone when she was abducted. Her boyfriend told police he heard her scream "Oh my God!" before the line went dead. In a call from Sjodin's phone a couple hours later, the boyfriend heard only static and the sound of buttons being pushed. *************************************
My comment: It's just too bad we can't torture this guy to make him say where she is!!!!
Do you know where this perp worked...
Is chemical castration an acceptable punishment for male sex offenders?
Resources used to support "yes"
Sex offenders, such as rapists, pedophiles, and exhibitionists, are among the highest reoccurring offense populations in the United States probation system. These offenders commit crimes that put fear into the general public and pose a threat to people that live in their neighborhoods. These offenders should be punished and not let off or forgiven of their crime(s) just because they have gone through a treatment program, most or which cannot show a significant success rate.
Chemical castration is an ideal punishment for sex offenders. When Depo-Provera is administerd, recidivism rates fall to 5%. Their sexual fantasies are lessened as a result of the reduction of testosterone levels. Although men administered this drug are capable of having sexual intercourse, many people argue that chemical castration is cruel and unusual punishment. This argument is countered by the fact that sex offenders are required to get injections only once a month. What is "cruel and unusual" is allowing sex offenders to attack innocent women and children.
This effective therapy will protect future victims. It is an "offender friendly" way of reducing sexual violence.
I am indifferent to offender friendliness.
Is it as reliable as beheading? If not, I don't want it.
Are there a lot of them?

That's right. She'd be alive today if she just blasted him and there'd have been no more heard about what new mischief the creep caused. Too bad the concept will be lost to many folks, because of the grabbers propaganda efforts.
That may be at play here. His lawyer might be trying to best arrange a confession for a scenario where she was killed in a non death penalty state. I hope she's still alive, but as more time goes by, it doesn't look good.
Enough. Barely. For now.
He served his full term. No parol, and since he's done all his time no supervision, either. Pure insanity.
Those movies were good, but there was one major hole in it. Just like Gilligan's Island, where they can create/build nearly everything but they can't build a simple raft or boat, in the case of Hannibal, all they had to do was remove all of his teeth, and he's incapable of savagely attacking others with his mouth, and hence, cannibalism... Just a thought.
