HARRISON, Ark. (AP) - A lawyer who pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge filed by Whitewater prosecutors died Thursday when the small plane he was piloting crashed while trying to land at an airport, officials said.
John Haley, 72, who was once the personal lawyer of former Arkansas Gov. Jim Guy Tucker, had recently joined a new law firm. A partner, Peter B. Heister, confirmed Haley's death.
One passenger, Farish Kincaid, 70, also was killed in the crash. Authorities said the men, both from the Little Rock area, apparently were due at a business meeting in Harrison.
Haley and Tucker were accused in 1995 of setting up a sham bankruptcy to hide profits from a business deal. Haley pleaded guilty and was fined and ordered to pay restitution.
Tucker pleaded guilty in the case, and was also convicted in a separate trial on fraud charges involving James and Susan McDougal, the partners of President Clinton and First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton in the Whitewater land deal. Tucker was sentenced to probation and home detention.
The Clintons were never charged in connection with Whitewater.
Haley's Bonanza single-engine, two-seat aircraft crashed in a ravine about 300 yards south of the Boone County Airport in northwestern Arkansas, Sheriff Danny Hickman said.
The National Transportation Safety Board planned an investigation.

As soon as I read Lawyer and "small airplane he was flying" I knew it was a Bonaza!
The Forked Tailed Doctor/Lawyer Killer flies again! Cleaning up the skies from people with more money then skill.
I don't understand why this happens, it's not like they are difficult airplanes or anyting.

Actually, most are 4 seaters.

I don't understand why this happens, it's not like they are difficult airplanes or anything. Because Doctors/Lawyers know better than anyone else about everything. IOW, they don't follow directions very well...

Try letting them near a P-Baron58! Some never learn. They do a fair job killing themselves in just about anything VMC into IMC.
"Impacted the ground at an unusual attitude.........and so on, is the usual NTSB finding. The survivors in the guy's family will still find a way to sue the various support service and part companies into oblivion. He's a "somebody" ya know, and "somebody's" need to be provided for in perpetuity.

Sounds like someone left the fuel cap off. I don't know of too many Bonanza's which have fuel dumping capabilities. Forgetting the fuel cap can suck a tank dry in ten minutes. If you are not paying attention and switch to that empty tank, a restart on an injected engine is not likely if you are inside the middle marker.
The "No Old Fools" as pilots rule kicks in here. It just took a while.

A Bonanza is a single-engine, but not a two-seater.

I love that MU-2 Solitare! Prop AD's are a bit pesky to the private user but what a sweet machine! Like baby C-130's with, pressurization and leather appointed interiors. Flies short fields like a dream too!

They left a fuel cap off I'm sure, if Avgas was being dumped. That's the only way to do it.
