[history]
Sandra Jolly said her 6-year-old son's Christmas was spoiled when his teacher told the first-grade class Monday that "Santa Claus is make-believe."
"He had this sad, lost puppy dog look on his face. This unhappy, empty look," Jolly said. "He said his teacher informed the entire class that Santa is make-believe."

No, the parents who keep propagating the mythic figure of him are liars. Oh, look, here comes another one down the pike.

I only watched it on TV, so more to the point, the production is what was awful. Katie, Matt, and the shrinking black weatherman (who's name escapes me) were extremely lame and the pasted smiles seemed oh so phony.
The marching bands were the best, the highpoint hands down. Wish I could have been there to hear them live.

Look, is making up a story and acting like it is true a good thing to do to your children? I think not.
If you have to make up Santa to inspire a little wonder in them....wow. The whole Christmas season should do it.
Yes, it was sure fun running down the stairs to see what Santa brought. But, it was not fun finding out it was all one big lie.
As for learning lessons from Santa, what rubbish. That would be true if you were talking about Saint Nicholas, but not the Santa myth.

That is the least-correctly answered question - and after three years!
Did you hear the "Babes Against Bush" twit on Hannity's radio show who couldn't even answer that question? Good grief, Charlie Brown!

Babes for Bush are not only better looking, they're also smart.

So, am I to assume that you think that parents who enourage the belief in Santa Claus, do NOT also inculcate their progeny with Christian dogma too ?
Since the Catholic church has used pagan gods and goddesses for saints, embelished historical figures, such as Saint Nicholas and others with unproven stories, perhaps the Dutch, Protostant tradition, which started the whole Santa Claus thing in America should be canned. But then, what fun would that be ? We could always use Father Christmas ( though he is awfully skinny and wears a green costume ), as the English do, or Father Winter, as the Russians used to, or would you prefer the witch, Baffana, that the Italians like so much at Christmas time ?
No ? None of the above ?
Then how about moving the birth of Christ to its more realistic date ( sometime around September 15th, according to the experts )and do away with the traditional winter holidays completely ? And whilst doing so, do away with just about ALL of the fairy tales which surround Christ's birth. You know, no three wisemen ( they showed up three years later and NOT for Jesus's birthday ! ), and no talking animals in the manger ( utter poppycock! ), and no a whole bunch of other things too, like having the day off. After all, Cromwell and the Purtians of Mass. Bay Colony, didn't do anything much for Christmas, except go to church. Of course, you'll have to also do without presents, special holiday foods/treats, trees, wreaths, cards, and just about EVERYTHING which brings joy and happiness to so many; young and old alike.
To: Junior_G
I don't harbor resentment toward my parents. THey tried to give me some joy, and it did work. I loved getting up in the morning to see what Santa got me. But, just because something causes joy does not make it automatically right for someone to do. It is not autmatically right for the parents to lie to their kids just because it makes them happy for a bit, until they find out they were lied to of course. Sex before marriage may give pleasure, but that doesn't make it right, along with all other sins causing carnal joy not making them right just because joy is created from the act. Why is Santa Claus somehow a concept that is okay because it is parents trying to instill joy in their kids? Isn't it wrong to tell them not to lie, yet tell an outright lie to them yourself?

The same to you and yours.
To: Junior_G
By the way, I would hope you could find more creative ways to get your kids happy and enjoying the holidays than fake creatures.
If you have to do that to get them happy, you aren't much of a parent.
