Sandra Jolly said her 6-year-old son's Christmas was spoiled when his teacher told the first-grade class Monday that "Santa Claus is make-believe."

"He had this sad, lost puppy dog look on his face. This unhappy, empty look," Jolly said. "He said his teacher informed the entire class that Santa is make-believe."

Mordant iliterates, sourpuss, Cromwellian vultures, and a whacko Libertarian, I see. LOL

Just between you & me, ETOM, a very MERRY CHRISTMAS, Ho, Ho, Ho, and a rattle of jingle bells. :-)

When my kiddo was a wee one ( and not so wee...LOL ), just as she was falling asleep, I would stalk the hallway, shaking a long leash filled with bells, so that she would think that Santa was approaching. It was such a lovely end to the usual ceremony of laying out the cookies and eggnog for Santa, the reading of a bedtime story, and her nightly prayers. And we always used to sing HAPPY BIRTHDAY BABY JESUS, on Christmas morn.

"ROFLMAO! FYI -- Howlin is a SHE not a he. How do you like getting whipped by a woman? Don't answer, you're weird enough."

Who got whipped? As I recall, I was the last to have questions unanswered...they still haven't been addressed, in fact.

"Furthermore, Howlin is NOT a liar. You are."

How old are you, anyway?

"...if she is in public school; you will be encountering a lot more important issues than Santa Claus."

The issue is not Santa Claus, the issue is that this teacher took it upon him/herself to usurp a parent's right.

As a matter of fact, it isn't any of your business what issues people want to think are important when it comes to their kids.

There's a nasty joke in there somewhere, but I'm sure we'd be damned to hell by the rightous on this thread if we even discussed it.

You mean in this post?

"I still believe in Santa Claus, but nowadays when I sit on his lap he has a certain gleam in his eye that assures me I'm going to get everything I want. And I do." :)

Naw, no nasty there. Just the unvarnished truth.

If you let silliness like this fester in kids' minds, that Santa pulls entitlements out of his sack as opposed to them coming from their parents who are working to pay for it, eventually they're going to expect that magic Santa to show up with government cheese & a welfare check.

You guys want fiction. This is a shining example of one. Let's just for a minute go to your world and pretend that Santa causes children harm. Even given that I just don't think they will draw this conclusion. Thanks for the laugh though! I believed in Santa as a child and I do love cheese? Do you think there is a connection?

Howlin, you have done an outstanding job of fending-off the truly whacked.

Yep, that's a fact... I'd be on my second bottle of Excedrin if I had tried to stick with this thread since the beginning ;-)

Since my "want" is for you to answer the question, I guess it won't be you. I'll just take it that since you haven't been able to give me ONE example in over an hour, that you just made the whole thing up. Good enough.

"I believe you are one of those "don't do as I do, do as I say" types; you don't believe in Santa, but you're asking for gifts."

No, I wasn't. It's called sarcasm.

Don't attempt to psychoanalize others, you just aren't up to it at all.

It isn't really a " lie ", to tell children that Santa brings presents. It's more akin to telling someone that they look " nice ", when they don't.

And as far as still being " mental children ", Jesus said that one must be as a child, to come to HIM.

ETOM, we not only sing Happy Birthday Jesus, but we have a cake for Him. A very special cake. I bake it and decorate it myself.

Makes me wonder just who really is signing on . :-(

Very good point. I'm such a trusting fool it didn't even occur to me to question taking it at face value.

Guess that is another good argument that believing in Santa doesn't destroy children's ability to trust... certainly didn't hurt mine any LOL

Down the street, there is a guy who really goes all out on his house; he has a manger scene and right over it is a sleigh with Santa and Rudolf flying through the air.

My kids refer to this as the "Ho Ho Ho Baby Jesus" house. :-)

Oh Barbra Striesand! This is a first grade class and even 6 year olds who can " color inside the lines and read a book " ( my daughter was reading at age FOUR and still sort of believed in Santa in middle school ! )still wouldn't have come up with " THERE IS NO SANTA ".

No wonder children no longer have imaginations, no one can write well anymore, and movies, T.V. shows, and plays stink. Without imaginative lives, good ( forget great ) fiction can't be written.

That is neat. I like people who decorate their houses for children and adults to enjoy.

I believe in Santa, but I was disturbed a few days ago when someone posted a profile of the typical pedophile on a Michael Jackson thread; it fit Old Saint Nick to a "T", along with some other people I used to love.

Popular with both children and adults.
Appears to be trustworthy and respectable. Has good standing in the community.
Prefers the company of children. Feels more comfortable with children than adults. Is mainly attracted to prepubescent boys and girls. Can be heterosexual, homosexual, or bisexual.
"Grooms" children with quality time, video games, parties, candy, toys, gifts, money.
Singles out children who seem troubled and in need of attention or affection.
