In a perfect world, cops would have infinite resources, but the world isn't perfect. It's not a question of the value of the life lost, it's a question of the additional value in investigating THIS particular death first.

For example, during the DC sniper attacks, catching the snipers before they killed more was a high priority due to the additional value in preventing more deaths. It would have been stupid to put the sniping deaths to the bottom of the list.

Hot trails get more resources than cold trails.

Deaths that evidence disdain for the legal system deserve a higher priority due to the character of the killer. A cold-blooded cop killer has absolutely no respect for life and needs to be stopped sooner than someone who was engaged in, say, an accidental hit-and-run.

Anyway, either you have no common sense or you have an attitude problem so if you want the last word, take it.

I disagree.

Like it or not, the President is different, because in addition to the personal tragedy for him and his family, there are national security implications and the disinfranchisement of all the votes cast for him. There simply are different costs to the country, and as such it is sensible that there are different penalties.

As disagreeable as you are, I still think your life is the equal of Bill Clinton's.

...which explains the new Secret Service contingent you now have at your disposal, justshutupandtakeit. Folks like Protagoras should be happy to pay for it; wanting to put their money where their mouth is and all that... ; )

Gee, I sure hope so. Look what happened in Columbia and Venezuela to all of society when the drug dealers started to go after prosecutors and government officials.

It has nothing to do with equality merely the role one fills in a society. Such attacks are a direct attack on all Americans and the Rule of Law and thus assume an importance unrelated to personalities.

They are symbolic events not merely personal ones. If they were not given more attention gangsters would soon realize that they avoid prosecution by killing the agents of the law and witnesses. This cannot be allowed or any thought of a Free society under Law becomes unthinkable.

Just as a secret service agent covering Bill the Abomination with his own body in an attack doesn't mean the individual covered is a better person than the one covering him devoting more resources to solving such crimes as this does not say anything about the relative value of the person killed. It says something about the value of Society and Law.

From farms to cubicles in two easy millennia!

I've fallen in my cubicle and I can't get up!

If I fall in my cubicle and nobody hears me, do I make a sound?

Their lives are worth the same. The issue is the value of their office and authority. Once the myth that creates general compliance with the law is shot down, it's all over, and no one's lie is worth much.

Sicily, too. The Mafia decided that the best way to stop the prosecutions was to kill the prosecutors and the judges. At least there were a few brave men who were willing to risk their lives and helped turn the tide there, but some awfully good men died.

For a while, drug dealers in DC thought it was smart to kill witnesses, but never went after prosecutors or judges. Not yet, anyway.

"What is government itself but the greatest of all reflections on human nature? If men were angels, no government would be necessary. If angels were to government men, neither external nor internal controls on government would be necessary.  In framing a government which is to be administered by men over men, the great difficulty lies in this:  you must first enable the government to control the governed; and in the next place oblige it to control itself."

If it was an accident he should be given 3 years probation and 500 hours community service!

Yes, of course--that is, if he accidentally stabbed and shot himself then threw himself into a ditch.

Inadequate maternal care is a potent cause of poor welfare for many species (from). My main research, funded by the BBSRC, is into how such experiences shape animals' lifelong perception of stressors. For most species kept by humans, maternal care is curtailed by early weaning, and the quality of maternal care may also be reduced, if captive environments are too .......

How much do you really know "Protagoras"?

It's really not that much, is it.

LOL,,nice try. You are no George Mason. In fact, that is so childish it tarnishes his name.

Jeez,,when are they going to put and age limit on this site? You kids should keep to playing your video games and leave the adults to talk about important matters. :^}
