The state yesterday barred nearly 300 youngsters from next week's bear hunt in a move officials said was designed to protect the young hunters from potential confrontations with protesters.

DEP employees began telephoning the 278 boys and girls, ages 10 to 15, who had applied for permits for the hunt, telling them they could not participate even though they had already attended mandatory safety courses earlier this fall. DEP Commissioner Bradley Campbell never mentioned his revocation order during an hour-long conference call with reporters yesterday, during which he repeated the DEP's position that the hunt is necessary to help reduce the growing bear population, estimated to be as high as 3,200.

No. The protesters are afraid that if they target the youths, they will have to deal with their angry parents.

Does this mean this terrorists are going to be roaming the woods protesting?

Shame on the slimy DEP for not turning over these emails to law enforcement.

I just called. The number is actually for the office of Commisioner for Game and Wildlife Martin McHugh(sp?).

They were not even aware of this artile. I held their feet to the flame and demanded to know whether law enforcement had been notified by this "un-named" DEP official. In addition, I angrily demanded to know why this official couldn't be identified as the case of these emails sounds like pretty clear threats of harrassment to minors of this state.

Further, I forcefully noted that statements made by DEP officials like the one I quoted her needed to be backed up by a name as this DEP official will be held accountable in the event that any hunters are harmed as a result of these protests. I used the phrase "state being intimidated by threatening email" several times.

Call and let em know what you think!

Nice work, FMOKM, and thanks for calling to protest. They must be forwarding DEP Commish Brad Campbell's calls directly to McHugh at Fish & Wildlife--the number I posted is from the DEP website and I got Campbell's office when I called earlier this afternoon.

Isn't it amazing that the State of New Jersey has offered up 300 youth hunters to appease animal nuts who threaten to break our laws? What's wrong with these bureaucrats?

They ought to just give these kids tickets to a good wholesome rap concert or something. I mean kids of this age don't need to be hunting anyway. Activity's like hanging out on street corners or smoking cigarettes in back alleys seem more appropriate.

No. The protesters are afraid that if they target the youths, they will have to deal with their angry parents.

That's not what the idiot who refused to give his name said:

The official said e-mails the agency has received from animal-rights activists indicated that young hunters would be the target of planned protests when the hunt begins. "It's not a matter of the youths being safe to participate in the hunt," the DEP official said. "It's a matter of their maturity in judgment when they are faced with the possibility of angry confrontation.

He doesn't want to do his job and keep the "angry confronters" away from the kids and out of the damned woods, so the coward bans the kids. He knows what's being planned, and he doesn't trust any kid not to fire in the face of it. But he is taking the side of the protestors. Utterly.

You are so right. They don't want to enforce the law because they're sypathetic to the lawbreakers. So they tell 300 kids, who passed their Hunter Safety Course and sat for the three hour Bear Seminar: Tough s@!##, kids, we're siding with the Animal Nuts.

What an outrage.

Bumping Bang List and Animal Rts List. Support from out of state is welcomed.

Please help out NJ. You may personally hunt, you may personally dislike hunting

I do not personally hunt, but I personally approve of it.:D

I will call. I assume tomorrow is our last chance TO call, if we hope to make any impact at all? (I'll just faint if you tell me he has weekend hours)

firebrand, nutmeg, can we get a Tri-State ping to the phone number in #8? Thanks!

d-back,

Even for this state department here in NJ, this is an absolute low.

What's next. No investigations of persons with Arab/Muslim backgrounds in Paterson or elsewhere in the state because of a human rights group email?!?!

activists indicated that young hunters would be the target of planned protests when the hunt begins. >>>

So what they are saying is that animal-rights activists/Democrats will abuse children and act like animals themselves.

Precisely!

If the state's skewed logic, prolifers who send in emails to state agency's saying they plan on ministering to the abort prospects could find the state barring the abort prospects from the mill vicinity. But that would never happen, huh.
