Legal memo to the Democrats (Freeper published)

Recently, several memos drafted by Senate Democrats have been leaked to the press. One memo, from the Intelligence Committee, exposes a Democrat plan to use the awesome power and resources of that committee as a political weapon against the president. The other memos detail how powerful left-wing lobbyists pressured Democrats to impermissibly oppose judicial nominations based on race and gender. Now the Democrats are outraged

Great work. This appears to give Senate Republicans the ammunition they need to ignore Democrat calls for the heads of the memo leakers.

Now we'll see if they have the guts.

You are correct in that the Judiciary Committee is not bipartisan in the way that the Intelligence Committee is. I don't think the same people are involved in the leaking of both committee's memos.

Of the two sets of memos, which do you think are more damaging to the nation, the Intelligence Committee memos detailing the plan to use priveleged information against the president during the upcoming election, or the Judiciary Committee memos detailing plans to stall nominees until favored cases are heard?

Junkie -- these are the JUDICIARY COMMITTEE MEMOS, not the INTELLIGENCE COMMITTEE MEMOS. There most certainly are two staffs on the Judiciary committee and they are anything but bipartisan. It is all out war there.

Moreover....Before the Jeffords switch, Hatch was chairman and Ryan Davis was systems administrator. He set up all the accounts on the Judiciary server and made it so everybody had a file folder on the server connected to the H drive. He set it up so that only the system administrator and that individual to whom the file belonged had exclusive access to that person's file folder-- those file folders basically composed the H drive.When the Leahy switch took place, Davis was fired by Leahy and Leahy brought on his own personal systems administrator to head up both his office and the judiciary committee computers-both Republican and Democrat. Leahy also brought on Brian Wikner to help with the judiciary committee computer--he was the assistant systems administrator. All the new accounts that were created after the Jeffords switch had their properties set such that not only did the systems administrator but all judiciary users could access each others files --if they knew that was possible. If you came on before the Jeffords switch, your files were not accessible to anyone, but if you came on after the Jeffords switch, you were open. That continued until Hatch became chairman when the server was upgraded and then no one had access to anyone else's files, period.

Neither in my opinion are damaging to the nation - just more "politics as usual". I'm extremely cynical when it comes to congresscritters of all stripes just can't trust any of them. I also fell that these kinds of staff memos exost in both parties. They're all cheats & crooks.

Hatch wouldn't let a little thing like violating the staffers' rights and costing us tax dollars stand in the way of appeasing Teddy et al.

I don't think they would seek a legal (money) remedy; they can simply sue to get their jobs back.

Since they're working for the GOP anyway, there wouldn't be any animosity towards them that would make that impossible; on the contrary -- they are heros.

Taking what is not yours is generally considered theft.

Personally, I consider any elected official as someone who works for me, part of the public. If my senators/reps are doing something illegal, all bets are off and they should go to jail. ...no matter how the information was obtained. I consider the leaker a hero.

It is important to note that the memos weren't "hacked" or "stolen" — due to an error committed by the Democrats' own IT personnel, the memo files were accessible to all.
