President Bush's Baghdad turkey was for looking, not for eating.
In the most widely published image from his Thanksgiving day trip to Baghdad, the beaming president is wearing an Army workout jacket and surrounded by soldiers as he cradles a huge platter laden with a golden-brown turkey.

What he probably did was (jokingly) pick up the platter and something along the lines of "okay, I got mine."

I believe they were run on FOX News channel last night and they were definitely Anti-PETA ads. I only caught about the last half of them as I usually tune out commercials when I watch the news. They were pretty scathing in that they showed pictures of ill children with the narrator saying that animals were used to find cures for illnesses that affect our children and without the animals and the tests a cure may not be found. They were run at least 2 times that I saw. They were well done and I would suspect we'll be seeing more of them.

I wrote these morons this morning and advised them that the videos clearly show that the President picked up the tray, got photographed, and then put it back down on the table. And, I also pointed out to them that anyone with half a brain would have known that the bird was only for decoration. Reason being: if the turkey had been for eating, why would the soldiers have had to get up, and get in line to be served their dinner. Duh!! I closed with saying, that if this was all they had to write about one week after the event, then they were really hardup for news and pathetic as all get-out.

Correspondent Mark Knoller said Sunday on "CBS Evening News" that the misleading information and deception were understandable, but that he had been "filing radio reports that amounted to fiction." Any why should this be considered in any way unique?

This was the driving reason for the article:
"poll conducted four days after Thanksgiving by the National Annenberg Election Survey put Bush's job approval rating at 61 percent, up from 56 percent during the four days before the holiday."
The liberals can't stand to see Bush's poll numbers going up.

Isn't it a Thanksgiving tradition for the president to spare a turkey from being eaten?

I don't get it either. It's even a real turkey! Especially the reporters.
To: BlueLancer
Heck, every year, my division commander And every other division commander in the whole freakin' armed forces did likewise. And these half-baked but really nice looking decorative turkeys are hardly unique to the military.
But this leftist lunatic of a J-school washout never even played with GI-Joe, and spends Thanksgiving eating fried tofu and beating his breasts over the imagined sins of Western Civilisation. So he hasn't a clue, his close friends (if any) haven't a clue, and he thinks the rest of the country hasn't a clue either. He's a moron. With a really big soapbox from which to screech his stupidity.
To: Kaslin
Do you think anyone really thought that was a real turkey platter. (She was in another location trying to upstage President Bush!!).
To: Kaslin
I guess the Clymers would have been happier if W had walked out into the sandy desert and arranged some turkeys into a cross, or been in a bathing suit dancing to no music with the turkey, or walked out of church with turkey and Bible in hand or....

Must be a slow news day in Washington Compost-land. The military services have, typically, incorporated a decorative centerpiece to dress up their mess halls during certain celebrations throughout the year.
More much ado about nothing from the libs.

now ive heard it all from these morons. "so what" is right .who cares if the damn turkey was rubber and glue or cardboard? i do not expect the president or anyone else to hold a platter of HOT HOT food for a pic.
GET A LIFE YOU USELESS REPORTERS.
you know they must do some fantastic LSD cause they sure do trip out a lot anymore.

Hah, I DID see Juan get his bird stuffed by the panel last night. He was spouting non-stop, convoluted liberal gibberish and lying like a rug.
Did you also see when the glaring Brit Hume directly eyeballed him and virtually told him to stop and "SHUT UP!"
The liberal mouthpieces are in full hysterical mode.
The whole episode was a Kodak moment.

I have served on 8 Presidential overseas advance teams and been involved on the receiving end for a number of others. This is a non-story. Every President has photo-ops choreographed into their visits. The WP is really reaching with this obvious hit piece, which really has nothing to do with the picture. ABC radio news has also picked up the story and is announcing it every hour to demonstrate Bush's duplicity. I didn't think the media could go any lower, but they have exceeded my expectations.
