Reporter: "You did say that to me when we talked one on one (Sept. 6, 2003) that you would consider a package deal that would have included a requirement of insurance for those people that are going to get the drivers license. That I know is something that you believe in. Do you also believe that all undocumented immigrants will be able to get a drivers license if they present insurance, if they have a background check, fingerprints?

Key point:
"This is what we are going to talk about, but right now the most important thing is to get this passed (the repeal of SB 60) so we can move to other issues."
Arnold is not in any hurry to revisit the issue. He stopped the disaster, now he is working on solving the budget crisis.

Do you also believe that all undocumented immigrants will be able to get a drivers license if they present insurance, if they have a background check, fingerprints? Governor: "Absolutely...yes
....let's make the undocumented immigrants happy."
Give me a break. Your spinning (or dishonesty) is Carville-esque.
What about "absolutely...yes" do you not understand?
To: gubamyster
Don't blame me. I voted for Tom! :-)Tom would not revisit, he would relocate illegal aliens.

as long as they are able to show proof of insurance, undergo background checks and have their digital fingerprints recorded I assume that when the background check indicates they are a criminal fugitive for illegally entering the country the license will be denied and they will be turned over to INS. Maybe?

I wish we could repeal the same stupid law in Tennessee. We've been giving illegals licenses for three years.

let's make the undocumented immigrants happy." This makes my blood boil. I'm glad I can honestly say I didn't vote for this clown. The reason Californians don't want illegals to get licenses is not just because there are no "background checks," but because it's just plain wrong! We don't want to reward illegality and encourage even more illegals to come here! We, the citizens of California, have been hornswoggled again.
So...when Arnold tries to push through licenses for illegals, adding "background checks" or whatever, what happens then? Do we start collecting signatures again? What happens to all the signatures already collected to stop SB60? They just go into the trash? What do we do now?

And on another issue......
To: JustPiper; gubamyster; FairOpinion
Yeah, and Vicent Fox is going to cooperate with a check of these Mexican's criminal records from Mexico.
Illegally jumping our border expunges their criminal records, for all intents and purposes, anyway.
The right bribe, to the right person in Mexico, will keep crimes off your record in the first place or clean your record after the fact.
The amazing thing is that Arnold believes this crap coming out of his own mouth. What a 'rube'.
LOL!

The reason Californians don't want illegals to get licenses is not just because there are no "background checks," but because it's just plain wrong! Then why do they vote Democrats into both houses of congress? The Demos have said all along they would do this.
To: FairOpinion
Key point:
The key point is the confirmation of what I've been telling you all along... "It doesn't make sense if the majority of Californians run around and hate the idea of undocumented immigrants having drivers licenses because there is no background check, because it doesn't solve the problem with insurance. Let's do it the right way, let's make every Californian happy and let's make the undocumented immigrants happy."
Contrast with... Schwarzenegger criticized Davis for signing a bill granting driver's licenses to undocumented immigrants, saying, "We're leaving ourselves wide open to terrorism." And he repeated his support for a guest-worker visa program -- "then they can (get) driver's licenses hooked together with insurance." Sacramento Bee - September 9th, 2003
Not much of a contrast at all, actually. Schwarzenegger clearly favors CDLs with background checks for Illegal Aliens. He completely misunderstands why the majority of Californians are outraged over this issue. Arnold is not in any hurry to revisit the issue. He stopped the disaster, now he is working on solving the budget crisis.
The petition to overturn SB60 in March is what stopped SB60. Schwarzenegger has revealed his true feelings about giving CDLs to Illegals. Indeed, they were never concealed. Those of you who thought his opposition was genuine or principled were wrong. If you now say that "Arnold is not in any hurry to revisit the issue," you'll understand our skepticism of that prognostication. If it is repealed now during the Legislature's special session, Schwarzenegger would be open to discussing the issue again in January once legislators reconvene for the start of their regular session, [Schwarzenegger's communications director, Rob] Stutzman said. He might be open to a compromise that tightens security procedures around obtaining a license, but still allows illegal immigrants to drive. Long Beach Press Telegram - November 22nd, 2003
Schwarzenegger's own communications director appears to belie your wishful thinking.

Then why do they vote Democrats into both houses of congress? The Demos have said all along they would do this.
Because Republicans are too spineless to offer the alternative. They have bought the media myth since the passage of Prop #187 that doing the right thing with regard to Illegals is mean and will cost them elections. But hey, at least they get to pal around with Ted Kennedy.

A referendum petition will be started the minute that He signs any new legislation giving illegals DLs, Save Our Licence organization isn't abandoning the issue or disbanding.
The current petitions are dead the minute that He signs the repeal legislation but I doubt they will be destroyed. The are a data base to get signatures on the next petition.
