2003: The Left's Legacy
PABAAH: Patriotic Americans Boycotting Anti-American Hollywood ^ | 12/02/2003 | Joshua Bunton

America has heard Democrats say things such as "No blood for oil" or "George Bush is a miserable failure". While Democrats are entitled to their opinions, the Democratic party needs to realize they are writing their "legacy". Exactly what does that mean?

Regardless of past successes, the modern day democrat has changed. Since September 11, 2001 (Americas most tragic day) democrats have focused more on "slamming' President Bush, rather than turning to more important issues, such as National Security.

What happened?

Antietam was far more tragic.

Antietam was far more tragic.

How do you figure? Most of those who died were invading Northern aggressors, right?

Antietam is in Maryland; 23,000 casualties in the first day all the result of a careless Executive branch.

Tragedy indeed.

Tragedy indeed.

But for a greater good, unlike September 11th.

I lack your God-like clairvoyance inspired by Robespierre.

9/11 was also the result of an incompetent federal bureaucracy, and innocent people died for the failure of pension patriots.

The Civil War freed the slaves. The carnage at Antietam was a heavy price. The result was a greater good.

Only St.Peter can make that call, but before we wreck this thread, how 'bout a case one way or the other whether Antietam was worse than 9/11?

No need to wreck this thread. Any rational human being understands that men died at Antietam in persuit of freeing enslaved human beings. That makes their deaths heroic. Their service to their country is something to be celebrated. Apart from several hundred Firemen, policemen and paramedics, those who died at the WTC were mostly just senseless victims. There is simply no comparison.

Men died at Antietam fighting for the guy next to them, be it a brother or father in the case of my Union Army ancestors, or just a friend from back home. They were victims of a powerful central state and a "spirit of the times" that shunned the "Just War" theory of their historical church and set out to fight for worldly cause. I reckon the higher the body count, the more glorious the cause, eh Nietzsche?

You really are a hardcore Robespierrian, so I guess the only place to take this conversation is discussing the root meaning from the Greek on 'hero' and 'tragedy.'

You are letting your goofy historical views get in the way of very simple logic. Because so many men involved in the fight believed in shat they were fighting for (even if you do not) their deaths were neither as tragic nor as senseless. Your position is just silly.

What happened?

What happened to the Democrats is they were deliberately infiltrated and systematically coopted by the sixties left, the now infamous cohort for which membership still requires de-facto renunciation of American citizenship.

They got their guy in office in 1993, and they still can't get over the fact that he didn't deliver the US to socialism.

Their anger now is coming from the fact that they are just beginning to realize that all Clinton did was sow the seeds of their destruction.

Speaking of Antietam, the Illumination is this Saturday. Well worth seeing for anyone in the area.
