"undocumented immigrant" has a certain benign quality to it, like they just misplaced their wallet or something. The so-called progressives are pros at this kind of thing. A big part of the fun of FR is reading everyone's take on articles like this. 20 years ago, there was no answering this kind of thing - those who define the terms of the debate win the debate everytime. We're not having any of that anymore.

Here is a
description of this bill posted on FAIR's web site. I think the bill overreaches and goes far beyond what is needed to deal with the particular situation the bill's sponsors like to talk about (that situation being that of outstanding students brought here by their parents at a very young age). So it's a fairly easy choice to oppose the bill. A more narrowly written bill limited to such circumstances and without the state mandates would be more difficult to oppose.

That's mighty interesting. During the months surrounding 9-11-2001 many forms of print media kept quoting one fellow over and over while he praised or defended Hillary Clinton. A Freeper put it together, word got around and the man was never heard from again.

IMO, there should be a "Taxpayer's Amnesty", whereby US citizens REFUSE to pay Federal taxes until after immigration has been brouught under control. Thus the government can feel free to declare amnesty for illegal migrants, and WE THE PEOPLE can feel free to withhold their salaries until they secure the borders. Let them spin all they want to the "public". The taxpayers rule in the end.

There are NJ lawyers I know that SPECIALIZE in guiding these people thru any obstacle in the system. These guys would make good bait for the sharks off the Jersey shore.

Not a bad process to propose.
To whom do these illegal aliens lobby? Who considers them to be a constituency? They can't vote. How do we find out who in congress is taking them seriously, so we can respond, as taxpayers, "with heavy force with extreme discretion".

"
There are NJ lawyers I know that SPECIALIZE in guiding these people thru any obstacle in the system."The bad news is, there are hundreds of slimebag lawyers in EVERY state who make their livings trying to get legal status for the illegal invaders. Read "Immigration Daily" and you'll see how they work to manipulate the system.

Critics of the proposal call it "an illegal alien amnesty.''
That would be me!

One critic said amnesty rewards illegal immigrants and sends the message to future illegal immigrants that they can sneak in and eventually get green cards Exactly.

Let her get a free college education and a job in Mexico. She must not have heard of NAFTA bringing all those good jobs to her own country.

I'd probably be willing to make a few exceptions, for certain specific cases where people are attempting to work within the system but face certain obstacles beyond their They should re-do the whole immigration system ---- one thing unfair is that those with family members here can be "sponsored" and get right on SSDI, food stamps, WIC, and Medicaid programs and there are some illegals who are only here to work hard and can work and can find jobs and aren't committing other crimes like using stolen Social Security numbers to get jobs.
This woman can go back to Mexico and apply for legal immigration just like others have done or if she wishes to be a foreign student in this country she can obtain a foreign student visa and follow the rules just like other foreign students are expected to do. Breaking the law shouldn't get you privileges above those who follow the law.

"Yesenia Sanchez" seems to get around. She's featured in a student newspaper here:

And, she's pictured here:

Breaking the law shouldn't get you privileges above those who follow the law. The specific person I was referring to had been 100% law-abiding until her husband died due to circumstances beyond her control. I regard people who wilfully immigrated illegally differently from those who made full good-faith efforts to comply with immigration laws and nonetheless ended up being non-compliant.

I agree with you on that. Besides marriage with a US citizen seems like a legitimate reason for someone to be here.
