Undocumented students rally for legislation
News 8 ^ | 11/30/2003 | Associated Press

Posted on 11/30/2003 7:00:47 PM PST by yonif

Yesenia Sanchez didn't worry about her noncitizen status -- until she turned 16 and couldn't get a driver's license.

Now 20 and attending college, Sanchez fears she won't find a job when she graduates.

She doesn't have a Social Security number.

Like other young people nationwide, she's pinned her hopes on the Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors Act -- also called the DREAM Act.

The proposal before Congress would give undocumented youth an opportunity to become legal U.S. residents.

Sanchez is one of thousands of young people who've come out of the shadows to lobby for the bill -- exposing themselves to the risk of deportation in the process.

Critics of the proposal call it "an illegal alien amnesty.''

One critic said amnesty rewards illegal immigrants and sends the message to future illegal immigrants that they can sneak in and eventually get green cards.

By using the word "undocumented" in reference to illegals, the AP writer has slanted this piece in favor of illegals.

If you can't get a job without a SS number, why not try going back to your country of origin and getting a job there? You got a free education in the US, that will give you the best kind of start!

Oh, and... you're welcome.

On top of the slant, the AP uses the journalistic technique of giving a story a human face -- Yesenia Sanchez in this case.

Why don't they ever give a human face to those who are in favor of legal immigration? Why don't they do stories on the terrified property owners in Arizon and New Mexico who have to protect their families from illegal alien intruders trespassing on their land in the middle of the night?

More Americans need to read the book "Coloring the News: How Political Correctness Has Corrupted American Journalism" by William McGowan.

Excuse me. That is a proven fact!

She doesn't have a Social Security number.

Sad, isn't it? She is unable to pay her dues like the rest of us.

I have typed this while slapping the tears from my eyes, so pardon any misspells on my (sniff) part.

The AP should put a human face on the tens of millions of taxpayers who don't want to foot the bill for illegal aliens. Here's what the headline would look like: DOCUMENTED WORKERS PROTEST DRIVER'S LICENSES FOR ILLEGALS.

My wife made an undocumented left turn on red this afternoon.

That's a good analogy.

From what I've read, those who defend the "undocumented immigrant" line try to use the excuse that there is no crime until a charge has been formally filed. I'd like to hear a legal opinion on that.

Why don't they give a face to the American worker she'll displace? You know, the one who was let go so Yesenia could be hired? 730,000 American workers are displaced by illegal aliens each and every year.

Good comment, and another great idea for a story.

However, we know the PC press won't touch it. You can find out why in "Coloring the News: How Political Correctness Has Corrupted American Journalism" by William McGowan.

ALL ILLEGAL ALIENS OUT!

I'd probably be willing to make a few exceptions, for certain specific cases where people are attempting to work within the system but face certain obstacles beyond their control. For example, there was at least one woman who was in the U.S. with her husband on his work visa and had permanent residency papers pending when her husband was killed on 9/11. I wouldn't want the government to discriminate against her immigration efforts because she went from 'legal immigrant' to 'illegal immigrant' as a result of events beyond her control.

Unfortunately, the INS would rather deport people like this woman (who have the audacity of trying to make them do paperwork to process a permanent residency or citizenship application] than the illegal aliens who are simply willing to ignore the INS and leave them alone.

"Yesenia Sanchez" seems to get around.

She's featured in a student newspaper here: http://www.dailyillini.com/sep03/sep30/news/stories/news_story01.shtml

And, she's pictured here:
http://newshound.de.siu.edu/fall03/stories/storyReader$903

(These were found via google; YS doesn't seem to be the same person as the Yesenia Sanchez-Giancola mentioned here: http://studentaffairs.depaul.edu/oae/staff.html)

This page describes how this article is one that AP intends to "move" this week:
http://www.kiplinger.com/news/XmlStoryResult.php?storyid=20031129140.5.1_68be00d7403e215c

As it says on that page, "Questions about the stories may be addressed to the World Desk supervisor in New York at 212-621-1650 (fax 212-621-5449 or e-mail worldnews@ap.org"

The article was written by Deborah Kong; her phone and FAX are given on this page: http://www.isn.org/lobby/list_of_media_contact.php3

There are more AP phone and FAX numbers here: http://www.ap.org/pages/aptoday/ap_contacts2.html

You can contact News 8 in Austin here: http://www.news8austin.com/content/contact_us/viewer_center/feedback/

The short list of email addresses to send your complaints to appears to be: jwolman@ap.org,msilverman@ap.org,apme@ap.org,dkong@ap.org,newsdesk@news8austin.com

Since they did not mention the racist burden of tuition on the undoc'd, you can bet she went all expenses paid (by taxpayer).

Now the poor dear will have to pick fruit because of our intolerance. Yeah.

Let's be clear: Illegals play the system like Paganini played a Stratovarius. She will continue to win in this regard.

There are NJ lawyers I know that SPECIALIZE in guiding these people thru any obstacle in the system.

Deport Yesenia Sanchez. She is the reason our CA schools are overcrowded, over budget, and not meeting the mark academically in comparison to other states.

Quit looking for handouts and go back to the Mexico.
