The "Lawn Dart" was a great toy for the whole family.

Jarts! We had a set of those babies- they had a (slightly) blunted steel tip mounted in the center of the weighted collar... things of beauty, really. My younger sister and I were warned to be careful with them, but she was too small and inept for much of a safety factor.

I ended up knocking her unconscious with a dirt clod one time (best toss of my life- if she'd have been standing still, I'd never have hit her), but I don't know if that would classify as much of a toy.

Dirt clods? Of course!

We used to have great dirt clod fights, and there were some kind of plants that we could pull up that had a big clod of dirt around the roots, great maces!

I got hit in the head with a claw hammer once, building a tree fort, asked the kid in the tree to "throw me the hammer!" he did , claws caught me right in the top of the head. I chased him around the yard but couldn't hit him because of all the blood in my eyes, Ma really freeked out over that one.

We used to skip grammer school and go hang out at construction sites all day, then after the workmen went home would play world war II on the roofs.

Such an innocent childhood.

“The "Lawn Dart" was a great toy for the whole family. Jarts!”
Was seeing how high I could throw one. Little sister had to run by and “THUNK”. “Whaaah!” Stuck straight up out of her head, slightly to the right (thank God it didn’t hit where the plates join). Great fun not being able to sit down for a week.
“What? No toad interrogations?”

It was only one, I swear he didn’t feel a thing going off in a cloud of pink and green at 100 feet. I didn’t know he was related to James Carville.

Other tidbits: Little gray plastic submarine propelled by a mystery tablet.
Barbie got a Corvette and her owners all over America got over with boys for the first time in their lives because of it.
SST cars powered by a “Rip Cord”. (I had the Black Widow).
Clothespin + baseball card + bike spokes = Lots of noise.
Crystal radio sets.
The Visible Man & Woman (Update! Visible Democrat: no guts and you can see right through it.)
Plastic model kits from Aurora (scalpels, flammable fluids, tiny parts, risk of hallucinations: these babies covered a lot of ground).

Happy Holidays!
