"At our age, you tend not to let the grass grow under your feet," says Athans, 42. Stabenow, D-Mich., is 53.

Athans doesn't waste time at work either. For about a year, he's been running a new nonprofit group, Democracy Radio, that says it seeks to restore balance to talk radio. The group's goal is to create and promote programs that bring what it calls a "progressive" perspective to the airwaves.

"Any form of liberal commentary has spoken a language you'd find in a classroom. If liberal radio is to get off the ground, they need to learn the language of the barroom."

Yet another wishful leftist projection.

The real world is JUST the opposite. Their ideology CANNOT stand up to any serious scholarly scrutiny. History is their worst enemy. Any Left-lib talk show will have to allow some dissent or it will bore listeners away, if they do allow callers then it'll end up with personal attacks and name calling, because the "language of the classroom" will spell defeat for them every time.

These people are approaching talk radio as a political project, just a matter af arranging the airwaves to a better configuration by decree. They seem to have no understanding at all of the market and capitalism. They still believe that Rush and Hannity et al are put where they are by megarich corporate fatcats who control what goes on the air. They do not understand that people can choose or even can understand enough to choose.

Freedom of Choice is freedom for the Elite to choose for the masses because the masses cannot know what is good for them or even what they like.

Some liberals blame all the conservative talk on the media deregulation of the Reagan era and the elimination of the fairness doctrine, which called for giving airtime to opposing views on controversial issues.

"The Fairness Doctrine"

So that's what the NPR and the mainsteam media have been doing all these years. I'm glad that "some liberals" explained that to me.

I am certainly unsurprised to see "some liberals" think it is all President Reagan's fault for the continued, repetitious failure of left-wing political talk radio.

says Beck. "I can't imagine any station that is going to get into business with people who say, 'You know what I really want to do is make political points all day that are going to further this political party.' "

TRY NPR!

Oh, yes. Liberals are just too erudite and cultured to make it on talk radio.

After all, they've merely spent decades calling their opponents sexists, fascists, racists, homophobes, unenlightened bigots, oppressors of "people of color." That's all very cultured, you know; that's very much in line with a "language of the classroom."

..."If we can produce entertaining and compelling radio programming throughout the U.S., we're certain the industry will react and the pendulum will move at least to the center," he says.

That about sums up the problem with liberal radio. There is no way a leftist radio show can air without the whining, wailing and angry complaining. It will be wall to wall broadcast DU. They will be revealed to be as stupid and shallow and uninformed as we know them to be.

There's another factor at play - DISSENT. Democrats will NOT allow any dissention within their party. Bonior voted pro-life but you'd never hear that broadcast because it would tarnish his image. This radio station will be nothing more than a loudspeaker for the most liberal of liberal and should be retitled "Socialism NOW."

then it'll end up with personal attacks and name calling, because...

...because liberals have no other type of argument. They can assert that something is so but cannot argue it with a conservative because the facts do not support liberal assertions. That is why leftist logic is heavy on name calling and claims that a person's social status or origin determines whether his argument is right or wrong.A conservative argues that x+y=a and x+z=a therefor y=z. The liberal responds that z cannot =y because the conservative is a white male whose father is a capitalist and y=z is a racist lie.

"Liberals need to be less mealy-mouth and more smash-mouth," says Matthew Felling, of the Center for Media and Public Affairs, a nonpartisan media research group. "Any form of liberal commentary has spoken a language you'd find in a classroom. If liberal radio is to get off the ground, they need to learn the language of the barroom."

Gee...I guess the folks over at DU have this mastered! They are pure garbage mouths....all the demoncraps I know are all "smash-mouthed".

This really ticks me off...He is insinuating that conservative talk radio hosts use barroom language...when was the last time you heard Rush, Shawn, O'Reilly get bleeped? It always happens with the demoncraps though!

Most liberal activists are elitist snobs who either lack the capacity to recognize their own intellectual limitations or are flat out intellectually dishonest in their effort to shove their ideas down everyone else's throats.

Liberals need to be less mealy-mouth and more smash-mouth

Liberals can never understand and get it right because they define theirspeech as being Logic and Reason, whatever they say. Their actual speech, especially when it is interactive with fact based argument, tends to be accusative and full of name calling. If a liberal is speaking, what he says is Right and Reasonable and Logical because the liberal is saying it. It has nothing to do with the nature of what he says or how he says it.Whatever a conservative says is Incorrect and Unreasonable because the conservative is saying it. Often if the conservative agrees with the liberal the conservative is still wrong because he is a conservative and his motives are Incorrect.

Ever heard Jim Hightower. He use to do a daily radio show, broadcast from Austin, Texas. The man promotes himself as a humorist/satirist, but is one of the most bitter individuals I have ever had the displeasure of hearing.

I hope this is the kind of host the democrats hire for their radio network. No one will listen!

Sadly, that is very much inline with the language of the majority of classrooms today. With few exceptions, college faculties are deeply hostile to any conservative viewpoints. The good thing is students, (being students and thus in their normal state of rebellion against elders), are starting to see this lopsidedness, and recent polls show they are trending conservative.

"Ever heard Jim Hightower."

Yea. I really liked it when he was Sec of Agriculture some years ago. He calls a press conference and proceeds to shove his arm down to the elbow in a fire ant mound. Almost died...

Although personally I would rather cut off an arm than listen to left-wing hate radio, I do believe that there are enough angry, misanthropic "progressive" leftists out there to create a good-sized listenership.

I don't think that Rat radio will have that big a problem finding enough of an audience to be profitable -- though I know it won't ever be as big as Rush's.

Yes. Those brainy liberals always seem to rely on The Genetic Fallacy.
