They should have kept that 4 or 5 story spike of wall with windows and facade that remained standing after the collapse was over. That would have been a stark and fitting reminder of the horror of the attack.

Ghod, I hate to agree with Dowd.
Even a jagged rusting chunk of girder sticking out of a pile of rubble and a list of names would have been better than the Bambified cutsie things proposed.

Actually, other than her gratuitous slam at the White House, she seems to have a point here for a change. I can think of a lot of better ways to express my feelings about 9/11 than some kind of drippy New Age pavilions fashioned by oh so sensitive artists. I thought what she said about rather seeing the twisted metal cross was right on.
This must be the only time in 50 years I actually agree with Dowd.

I walk by ground zero fairly often. There are still a few memorials, but the mayor has gradually removed most of them. In particular, the plywood fence opposite the site, where they are still cleaning up the building to the south, has been cleaned off. It's a pity. People wrote some wonderful things on that fence. They could have at least left them up until the construction work behind it was done.
Tourists, or one might almost say pilgrims, still regularly visit ground zero to see it. They all seem pretty solemn and respectful, including many foreigners.
Rudy Giuliani understood what happened, but frankly Bloomberg doesn't have a clue. He's too busy enforcing the smoking laws.

First time I've ever agreed with anything Dowd had to say!
However, she also took the opportunity to bash Bush for not asking why the terrorists hate us....the answer is too basic for Dowdy to comprehend....Mo...they hate us because we are not Muslims!

Dowd is on CSPAN now speaking about Brokaw and his Fourth Estate Award.
She sounds seriously 'nasal'.

So when did Maureen Dowd begin believing in evil? ---other than Republicans, I mean?
To: NYC GOP Chick
My God. I actually agree with Maureen Dowd.
The designs I've seen resemble video arcades located in swamps - or perhaps a U2 concert located in an Indian sweat lodge. I've never seen anything like them.
Doesn't America have a sculptor or architect capable of doing this work?
