President Bush secretly landed an hour ago and is currently eating Thanksgiving dinner at my undisclosed location. Anticipate a press release after he takes off.

I am very glad to see that you are back and didn't get in trouble. You created a memorable thread. Can you give a little more detail on how the event went. How is morale after the visit?

Freegards and thanks for your service.

Chief,

Caught Fox News breaking in to drop their flash Thursday, and I was really surprised and thrilled to see Dubya had done it. I didn't know about Hillary in Afghanistan, so I was unaware of any political competitive dimension to the President's visit.

Too bad, really, that Hillary is up there. People from Congress ought to look in on the troops every now and then, but when she does it, well, as someone pointed out upthread, it just makes it all political. Because now, if the President just wanted to run over there to tell you guys "Happy Thanksgiving" in person and pass some turkey around, the fact that other pols were up in Afghanistan stunting for the home folks makes it look like Arbusto was doing it too.

Frankly, I'd thought to myself earlier in the week that it would be really cool if the President could drop in on his people pulling all that theater duty on the holiday, and damn if he didn't do it! And that after that DHL freighter had to return to base after being tagged by an SA-14. Talk about stone cojones! He's showing the old fighter jock in him -- kick the tire and light the fire, we're going to Baghdad! That is just totally cool -- thanks for the flash traffic, I appreciate it along with all the rest of the guys and girls on FR.

Interesting thought, though........regarding that DHL freighter, how was it that that SA-14's IR seeker wound up burying itself in a wingtip, rather than finding an engine? Are these guys doing something we're not hearing about?

Jus' wondering.....don't get in trouble on our account!

um... there is a BIG difference between seeing a C-5 and a 747 flying (especially when the 747 is AF-1). For one thing, the engines sound different.

No kidding. C-5's sound like a cross between a coffee mill running wide-open and a bank of air-raid sirens stuck in first gear. Loud as hell, you can recognize them anywhere. I seem to recall seeing an early-production or prototype C-5 or C-5A groaning around over Charleston or Jacksonville back in 1970, or maybe Patrick AFB, and noticing its peculiar sound.

From all that's been reported, this is true about Airforce One. According to Jim Angle, with Fox, the British pilot immediately understood that answer (Gulfstream 5) was so obviously wrong, that there was something up and he didn't press the issue.

Bravo for him to keep the secret!

"G.W. Bush, is sincere almost to the point of innocence"

What a perfect, beautiful thing to say. That describes exactly, what we have seen in him for all this time.

(I am fortunate enough to have had this wonderful man as our Governor, before we loaned him to the country. We will be wanting him back, but not until the end of his next term!!)

I can't read those 9/11 thread unless I know I'm not going to be doing anything for the rest of the day and can plan on having a nightmares for the next few nights.

FR is the place to come for breaking news--but for the President's visit, I was news-free most of Thanksgiving. We were at my hubby's sister's home in northern Wisconsin (they don't have an internet connection), I didn't bring along my laptop, and didn't see any news until we had gotten back to my hubby's parent's home around 8 p.m. They were about to turn on yet another movie, but I insisted on a news fix and WHOA! There's the President in IRAQ! My jaw was in my lap. I said, "How in hell did he pull THAT off!" and "Hillary must be in full shrew mode."

What an awful memory to have. I was 3,000 miles away watching the second plane hit on tv, and I still can see that happen in my memory.

I believe that many of us without our heads buried in the sand knew when that second plane hit that it was terrorism. We, also, knew which group of people were responisble for most acts of terrorism since Jimmy Carter enable Iran to become an Islamofascist country.

Thanks for sharing that terrible day as a freeper who was close to what happenend.

Yes, the troops had to leave guns and other stuff at site away from where Bubba was.

That one picture of our GIs around Bubba was worth a million words with the looks of scorn they had for him.

No, it is a very smart move on her part...you see, she is planning to run in 2008 and will probably win (no I don't like that idea, but I suspect she will win)..

She knows by 2008, that the war will be recognized as just and necessary by the majority of the american people, and she will be able to point out that she supported our troops and even supported the war, although she opposed some of Bush's policies like "not going to the UN" (as if he didn't, but that will be her line)

Watch how she distances herself from the Deans and other lefties in 2004. Indeed, Wesley Clark is running because the Clintons recognize that a McGovern losing by a landslide is NOT the best way for a Democrat to win in 2008, and that if Dean turns off many mainstream Democrats, they may end up voting for Condi Rice instead of Hillary in 2008...

Was it truly Air Force One? It was a rather small aircraft, right?

Everyone needs to leave the Chief alone & STOP nit-picking! Maybe he shouldn't have posted at all & then you wouldn't have this great thread. WAAHHH!
Thank you for your info, Chief.

You sound like me. I may buy a laptop to keep up with news when we travel.

Right now my trophy wife says "No"!

However, yesterday was another example of how FR is the real news. She wanted to know the high lights of the FR thread.

I almost grabbed the laptop when we were packing up the car, but I thought, "naw, nothing's going to happen." On the way over, I listened to music, then the Packers game (sulk), and once we got there, we watched the game, ate, then watched a kid's movie. If I'd had the laptop along, I could've logged on to FR just for a little bit--oh, who am I kidding--it would've been for a helluva long time....

I'll never make that mistake again--the laptop comes along.
