The only thing good about Republicans imitating Democrats is the collateral destructionn of groups like AARP.

Yeah, it's sooo wrong to expect senior citizens to actually PAY something for their health care.

Yep. Gotta admit it's pretty funny, not to mention pathetic.

3 to 4 thousand resignations out of 35 million members.
That's not a firestorm, that's a sneeze.

They probably get that many cancellations if they change the layout of the membership card

Anything that weakens AARP is a good thing.

It's the Florida angry seniors at the butterfly ballot machine at work. Why no complaints until now? Hmmmmmm....

They probably have that many members in West Palm Beach who forget to sign their checks when they send in the payment.

This defies logic. There can't be that many seniors who even know what is in the bill that passed.

They just like getting whipped up about something. Either that, or the Viagra shipments are late again.

"Yeah, it's sooo wrong to expect senior citizens to actually PAY something for their health care."

They already do pay something for their health care. Apparently you don't understand how medicare works.

Destruction? The loss of 4,000 hard left members can scarcely destroy an organization of 35 million. Look for an AARP poll in the coming months. It will show huge membership support for this change in Medicare. If anything, this defection actually strengthens AARP by pulling it slightly toward the mainstream.

I understand it just fine. The problem is, they always want more, more, more money from other generations, even though they are now the wealthiest segment of the population. Instead of being grateful that they're getting some help, they're bitching that you and I won't be forced to pony up more of our hard-earned dough to keep many seniors from (gasp!) having to cut back on one of their timeshares!

Maybe they made the checks out to Pat Buchanan by mistake.

as of Monday, 3,000 to 4,000 AARP members had canceled their memberships

As a 56 year old AARP member, I am disappointed that the median political view of all AARP members just shifted in my direction. :-)

There is a wave of Baby-boomers coming into AARP that are far more conservative than the Old Guard ever anticipated.

I am glad that AARP represented my view in their support of the legislation.

Time to renew membership

"The problem is, they always want more, more, more money from other generations, even though they are now the wealthiest segment of the population."

Actually, a very small percentage of folks on Medicare are wealthy. A heckuva lot more of them are not, including my own parents. I live in a town with lots and lots of oldsters, and there aren't any of them rich and they don't own timeshares. Instead, they own homes they bought 20-30 years ago when they were working, and drive 20 year old cars. Are those the folks you're thinking of?

To tell you the truth, I don't mind paying for some of the healthcare of the generation that fought WWII.
