[history]
Cut, cut, cut. That should be the message from Californians to the state Legislature on Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's package, released Tuesday, of almost $3.8 billion in proposed cuts in the 2003-04 budget year, which ends June 30, and the following budget year.

.... almost $3.8 billion in proposed cuts in the 2003-04 budget year, which ends June 30, and the following budget year. That's it?! $3.8 billion in cuts over 1-1/2 years and covering roughly $150 billion in budgetary expenditures. That's only 2.5% in cuts. Let's hope this is just the start of budget cuts for the new Governor. Arnold can terminate much more and he should.

"Unfortunately, Democrats in the Legislature already are balking at the governor's proposed cuts. "I don't see a lot of this happening," Senate President Pro Tem John Burton, D-San Francisco."Funny how he still thinks he has a choice.

I live in Nevada County in N Calif. I get 3-6 booklets a year in the mail for classes at the local "Sierra College" campus. The main campus is only about 35 miles away, but they just HAD to open another campus here in Grass Valley.
I have NEVER signed up for any mailing list to get ANY information about classes offered at Sierra College. One of them was 120 pages. A total waste of money to print and mail, and this is on top of the liberals position of not cutting trees. Where do they think the paper comes from? If it is re-cycled paper, that is ever more expenseive than virgin paper.
The best part??? I am over 64 years old and I have absolutely no interest in taking any classes at any college at this time in my life. If I would have such interest, I am capable of finding out without this mass mailing of data. Paper, postage, landfill costs...all at the expense of the Calif taxpayers. I'm convinced this happens at ALL of the Calif campuses.
This is what the legislature doesn't want to cease. It is an incredible waste of everything, especially taxpayer money.

Do you have a web site or something we could post onto? I have been unsuccessful in finding one, and I Googled last night trying to do so.

$208 million from eliminating diversity outreach programs at the University of California and Cal State systems.$208 MILLION for "diversity outreach"? I'll bet that tis is nothing more than a slush fund for bribing and rewarding various politicians and bureauracrats.

My personal favorite so far ;-)
I can't wait to see what other cuts are coming down the road, especially in Arnold's budget proprosal for January!

Convert all state pension plans to 401Ks. Grandfather in the current beneficiaries - they will be more inclined to accept this if only the newbies are hosed.
Yeah, it will take time for the benefits to kick in, but if they had done this 15-20 years ago, they wouldn't have this particular funding problem now.

Also their library:
In addition to offering reference service and print collections, the Library also manages the Web publishing efforts of the IIRs and ILE. As part of that mission, the Library prepares digital versions of working papers, digital labor art and other Web-based resources.
Produces banners and poster fliers etc for demonstrations and strikes.

John Burton and Phil Angelides' preferred candidate Busty ran on tax hike platform and received the LOWEST percentage of the popular vote in California for a Democrat since 1930. If they have a political death wish, let them place tax increases on the table. Even Steve Westly is positioning himself to the Democrats' right and our State Controller IS a Democrat. He knows which way the political weathervane is blowing and Arnold should embrace his plan. That will make the project of reducing our bloated, inefficient, and unresponsive state government bipartisan. In short, LET'S ROLL and save California!

We can eliminate liberal recruitment programs. That would be small pocket change but hey you gotta begin somewhere.
