A French journalist successfully negotiated to receive a home video taken two days ago three days ago by TERRORISTS on the ground in Baghdad near the International Airport. Japanese TV has gotten their hands on the video. Freepers, here it is.
The brief video clip, with explanation, CLEARLY shows the enemy's advance positioning on the ground, near the airport, for the missile 'hit' of an approaching Baghdad-to-Bahrain DHL cargo aircraft.
It then shows the actual missile launch, or what appears to be several launches. It also shows the "hit", under the left side wing of the aircraft.
The speed of the missile is estimated at approximately 580 meters/per/second. Amazing video (in the Japanese language but clear to understand).

Does it matter? You obviously have guys that have missiles filming a launch and then film of the actual DHL hit. Does it matter if there is a gap? They obviously were filming the actual DHL hit so knew about it before it happened whether the launch filmed was THE launch or not.
Some news reports this morning indicate that the film is 6 minutes long. We are obviously seeing only a clip. These reports also say that a US helicopter gunship is seen on the film in the area but takes no action, apparently not noticing the missile launch.

I'm having trouble download the media clip to my harddrive. It seems to be blocked or protected from copying.
If anyone is a little more savy with copying streaming media, I volunteer my server for storing.

French yahoo article on the journalist, Sara Daniels, receiving the video tape.
"BAGHDAD (AFP) - a video cassette showing a combatant firing a ground-to-air missile against the A-300 Airbus from DHL arrived Sunday to Sara Daniel, a journalist of the French weekly magazine the "New Observer". The six minute old cassette shows in the countryside of the combatants, whose face is hidden by a keffieh where by a white scarf, armed with anti-tank kalachnikov, rockets and portable missile launchers ground-to-air SA-14. One sees there initially an American helicopter passing in the field of vision of the combatants who do not intervene then, a little later, one of them fires a missile which rises in the sky, leaving a trail of white smoke. An image shows then a wing of the plane on fire. "I received the cassette that somebody deposited with my hotel", affirmed Sara Daniel. Questioned on the reasons for which it had received the cassette, it supposed: "I have worked for a few weeks on this mobility. Can be that the authors of the attack whom I do not know, intended to speak about me by people whom I met during my investigation ". It indicated that the networks that it had met were "Iraqi nationalist religious jihadists who hate Saddam Hussein and Ancien Régime and which affirms to have for goal only to drive out the American occupant". A A300 Airbus chartered by the German company of fast mails DHL had been touched Saturday by a missile with the top of Baghdad, which had constrained the apparatus to land in urgency. "a plane DHL took off this morning of the airport of Baghdad and was touched by a ground-to-air missile SAM-7", affirmed a military person in charge. The plane "took fire, turned back and is turned over to the airport where it arose without problems. Fire was controlled, it does not have there casualties ". The left wing of the plane had taken fire. The pilot had succeeded in being posed miraculeusement on the airport of Baghdad. No victim was deplored."

Good point about ( you trying to) save this clip, it might be copyright or protected in some way. The point is, the URL links might only work for awhile. We have had that problem in the past, when someone wants to see an old article with a video link that then goes nowhere.

Amazing. Thanks for the ping. Too bad the cameraman didn't have an AK-47 and send the bad guys to their reward.

Um... Who shot this footage?
And why are they not dead right now?

Does it matter? You obviously have guys that have missiles filming a launch and then film of the actual DHL hit. Does it matter if there is a gap? They obviously were filming the actual DHL hit so knew about it before it happened whether the launch filmed was THE launch or not. You're missing my point. What I'm saying is that there is video of the jet coming in for landing on fire that already existed. Some yahoo on the web combines that with stock footage of Arabs firing SAMs and, voila, we have video of the supposed attack. The cuts in the video make me wonder whether this is real. Also, in the part showing the launch there are no power lines. In the part showing the jet coming in for landing there are power lines. These two parts were only separated by a few minutes so there wasn't time for the cameraman to move closer to the airport.
I've seen a video of a Chechen SAM attack on a Russian helicopter. In it you see the launch and can follow the missile all the way to impact with the helicopter.

Yeah... I have my doubts about the editing...
In the footage with the terrorists firing the missle there are no buildings, nothing around.
And the plane is so far up in the air that all you see are the contrails.
I don't know about the range for these missles but I don't think they can travel that far.
To: Nexus
Im not either. I see open fields with nothing around, then I see the airplane with whay looks like power lines or telephone wires in the air in the foreground. This was definitely spliced together from two different tapes.

like they are going to stick around after firing a missile at an airliner with gunships nearby...the scenery changes because they are running for cover.
They look to be a mile or two from the end of the runway to the southwest. The contrails are from OTHER planes not the ones being fired at. It's pretty common for planes flying over at high altitude to fly over airports for navigation purposes. The plane was hit as it was climbing after takeoff.
The tape was edited because from the time of impact of the missile to the time the plane would come back to land at the airport would be several minutes, during which these guys would be running for cover.
Hitting an airliner with a heat seaking missile isn't the easiest thing in the world as the exhaust isn't as hot and as concentrated as a helicopter turboshaft. It may have gone through the wing or detonated nearby.

I'm still skeptical.
They look to be firing at the contrails... I'll check out the video again.

Hi
The range of the SA-7 and the SA-14 is approximately 2 miles VERTICAL and 3-4 miles slant range. So a plane landing or taking off is within the "hit zone" for quite a while until it reaches a high altitude. There ought to be (if we want Baghdad International Airport to be really viable) ground and aerial patrols in an area 6 miles long from the end of the runway (both for takeoffs and landing approaches) by 2 miles either side of the runway. That would make it difficult for the bad guys to set up in a favorable location.
Fortunately, the small MANPADS (man portable air defense systems = shoulder fired surface to air guided missiles) have a very minimal warhead that may not cause catastrophic damage.
