California Senate has voted to repeal SB 60! (Drivers' Licenses for Illegals Being REPEALED Now!)
Posted on 11/24/2003 4:34:03 PM PST by ElkGroveDan
The California Senat is now voting on SB 1XXX by Senator Rico Oller to repeal SB 60, the dirvers license of illegal aliens bill.
Reports are that the Democrats have been scared into supporting this. The recall exit polls showed it was the number one issue.

"Quotes and links... pfffft!"Admittedly not well documented but it sure did get someone to begin quoting and linking (#187) as opposed to commenting on the color of your fur.

"And he repeated his support for a guest-worker visa program -- "then they can (get) driver's licenses hooked together with insurance."Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't someone be here *legally* if they had a guest worker visa in their possession?
If here legally, with such a visa in hand at the time, and if they have insurance and pass a security background check, then I have no problem giving them a driving test. If they pass, then heck, give them a driver's license.
Once again I find myself in synch with precisely what Schwarzenegger has said, unless I'm missing something really large.

You couldn't be any more correct about Arnold.
The FReepers he's suckered are going to fall hard when they realize the extent to which they've been betrayed.
How can anyone ignore Arnold's direct quotes after as many times as you've posted them?
Bump!

"open to discuss"... "might be open to" in the meantime the nasty bill IS being repealed. Does that give you a clue?
This clue? "then they can (get) driver's licenses hooked together with insurance." ~ Arnold Schwarzenegger All this means is that we're going to have to fight both the Democrats and our own party when they push through some kind of compromise bill issuing CDLs to Illegals. We have to get all of those signatures again. So be it.

The point is that the illegals driver's licence bill is being repealed NOW, as in NOW.
The rest may or may not happen.

Arnold has repealed the car tax tripling. Campaign promise kept. Arnold has repealed the illegal drivers license law. Campaign promise kept. Arnold has begun a statewide budget audit and review. Campaign promise kept. Arnold has begun firing corrupt Davis cronies (e.g. Gourley at the DMV). Campaign promise kept.
Not bad for his first full week in office. Half of all elected politicians fail to keep even one campaign promise. Arnold's already kept his three largest ones.
California has done worse than that with their elected officials in the past than to have Schwarzenegger, that's for certain!

"Arnold has repealed the illegal drivers license law"
You LIE!
Arnold had nothing to do with the Senate voting to repeal the illegal drivers licence law. The only reason that a bill to repeal was voted on is because the CALIFORNIA REPUBLICAN ASSEMBLY obtained enough signatures to place the referendum on the ballot.
Arnold is a no good SOB!

I'm sure that you meant to put some sarcasm or humor tags somewhere in that last post of yours, but I couldn't tell where...and didn't really get your jokes or innuendo without them.
Sometimes, what seems like an obvious gag on one side of the computer doesn't really translate all that well to another.

In the old days, yes. Welcome to the Newspeak of Amnesty for the 21st Century. Used to be a foreign national would apply for a guest worker visa while still in their own country. I've got no problem with that, provided the details are kosher. Now, Republicans like Kobe, Flake, McCain, and Cornyn are pushing guest worker bills that would enable Illegals to change their statuses (stati?), and then apply for green cards at some later date. Cornyn's bill, S. 1387, is the worst. It would Amnesty Illegals who aren't even here yet. Schwarzenegger currently favors McCain's S. 1461. If here legally, with such a visa in hand at the time, and if they have insurance and pass a security background check, then I have no problem giving them a driving test. If they pass, then heck, give them a driver's license.
If they get here legally, whether as immigrants or guest workers, then I have no problem with them driving legally. I have a big problem with Illegals. Once again I find myself in synch with precisely what Schwarzenegger has said, unless I'm missing something really large.
Schwarzenegger, McCain, Cornyn, and a host of others want to reward Illegals with Amnesty and sundry goodies. I think that's unconscionable.

The irony is, Arnold won't betray them. He's been pretty honest about his intentions.

Bump but in a city this size pal, I tellya it would take neighborhood block groups. And believe it or not, in predomiantely hispanic areas, ex.- Cicero (went from Italian thugs to Moreno, hispanic city thug) and Humboldt Pk and Logan Square in the heart of the city and so many areas, they kinda kowtow to the hispanics or are bullied by them. Chicago has to be 2nd to LA for hispanic gangs also.

"Schwarzenegger, McCain, Cornyn, and a host of others want to reward Illegals with Amnesty and sundry goodies. I think that's unconscionable."Giving amnesty has always been a Governor's privilege. If Arnold *really* wants illegals to have amnesty, he can do it with his own pen. Let's wait to see if he really wants such a thing or even allows it to happen if the Senate/Hose want it. He's just been in office for one week, after all, so I see no reason *yet* to cast aspersions his way.
As for amnesty itself, it doesn't have to be "unconscionable." there have always been good reasons to hand out amnesty. The U.S. did precisely that to a certain pirate Lafette in order to gain his battleship and crew for a fight against the invading British.
Of course, amnesty has also been abused, witness President Clinton's pardon of the ten Billion Dollar metal man Marc Rich, as well as his pardon of the FALN terrorists who bombed a policeman in NYC, of all places.
Fast forward to today. Could there be a conceivable case made that trading amnesty in exchange for illegals registering with our system would have some security value?
I'd say that enough of an argument could be made for such a thing to remove "unconscionable" from the equation and replace it with "dubious" or "naive", but those descriptors are far less damning than "unconscionable", surely you will admit.

I'm not going to give it up, I have to live with that human garbage, you don't.
What's your interest in the illegals in California anyway, you don't have to live with that crap.
Instead of amnesty, there should be a bounty on them, i'd suggest $100 alive, $1000 dead!

I use this test: if I have to explain the joke, it isn't funny. If people think that I've made a joke when I haven't, then it is funny in all of the wrong ways.
You can decide where you fall, and if any of those tests apply to you.
