2. Hot primaries new experience for Republicans 11/23/2003
The Hill Report, a political newsletter that specializes in covering the GOP in Oklahoma, says that several prominent Republicans, including Dewey Bartlett and Tom Coburn, are thinking about running for the U.S. Senate seat now held by Don Nickles.
----Lower on the same page it says Bob Anthony (yarg) may also run... ----Just saw Coburn on "BOOKNOTES" on CSPAN....talking about his new book...Sounded mighty good...When asked if he might one day again run for office, he said "maybe" ...
COULD MAKE THINGS VERY INTERESTING...

Coburn would have my backing.
He's conservative and can win democrat leaning seats.

Coburn would be the bomb. Not that there's anything wrong with Kirk. Inhofe is a moron. He's also a moron for trying to avoid a primary without having a consensus candidate.

Coburn would be the best candidate, if only because of a weak Republican field. Frank Keating is a loose cannon who now supports the death tax, Ernest Istook is uninspiring, Steve Largent blew it, and J.C. Watts has said no. So it looks like Coburn.

Is Nickles retiring?

You didn't evaluate the candidate who IS actually running, Kirk Humphreys.

Is Nickles retiring? No, he's drawing primary challengers because after 23 years in the US Senate they say he "should look older".

Coburn used to represent RAT Brad Carson's US House district. Coburn would the strongest Pubbie to take on Brad Cason in the Senate race.

It is ironic that Carson is a Zell Miller Democrat, there is no reason for him to stay on the Dark Side. There isn't a single issue that he votes with the Rats on, but he would bring them one vote closer to a majority I suppose, but why he'd want to do that is beyond me.
Sometimes people are hard to figure. Maybe his mother was a Rat (that is an awful thing to say about someone's mother, I know).
