Robert Scheer: There's Something Happening Here
Los Angeles Times ^ | November 18, 2003 | Robert Scheer

Posted on 11/19/2003 2:31:58 PM PST by presidio9

Here we go again. Only now it's the "Iraqification" rather than the "Vietnamization" of a quagmire war in another distant and increasingly hostile land.

Washington's puppets are once again said to be on the verge of getting their act together, and the American people are daily assured that we are about to turn the corner. Soon we will be able to give Iraq back to the Iraqis, and some distant day the United States will get out. In the meantime, U.S. troops must continue in a "support role" while being maimed and killed with increasing frequency.

Sorry to appear so jaded, but it has been nearly 40 years since I was briefed in Saigon by U.S. officials about the great progress being made in turning the affairs of South Vietnam over to Washington's handpicked leaders of that country. I was also told with great emotional forcefulness that it would be irresponsible to just leave, given the dire consequences for world freedom.

Scheer is the original Bel Air Bolshevik. Just seeing his byline on the editorial page is enough to make me turn immediately to the comics.

Robert Scheer is an actual socialist.
David Horowitz talks about him quite a bit in his autobiography, "Radical Son."

Some of the guys who were part of the "New Left" in the 60's have had "second thoughts." Scheer is one of the ones who did not.

The fact that he is on the LA Times payroll tells you something about that paper, IMO.

FR should have a feature that automatically deletes the rest of the article when it hits the word 'quagmire', because that's as far as anyone should read.

Scheer is a solidly indoctrinated communist.

The Vietnam War is also still very much going on, and we're winning it.

Is jaded the right word? Maybe he should apologize for being hopelessly lost in another generation and having his entire world view cemented by a war that many of us are too young to remember and others of us too bright to deny that life has gone on. I love when Democrats call themselves Progressives only to reveal how many decades have passed since their views were relevant.

My favorite daily news paper The Durham Herald-Sun dropped this jackass a long time ago. He wouldn't have been missed even if the space he once poluted had been left blank.

I didn't read it. Just the name "Scheer" was enought to tell me not to bother.

This guy's a GRADE A jack ass. By the way, Vietnamization worked and a peace agreement "guaranteed" South Vietnam's security. Post Watergate, the democrats stopped President Ford from even giving the South Vietnamese financial or equipment aid, as they were overrun by an invasion of North Vietnamese tank divisions. That sell out and waste of American lives is exactly the blueprint for a future democrat foreign policy.

They allowed South Vietnam to fall because they wanted it to fall. They hated our ally only second to how much they hated America. They rejoiced in the communist scumbag invasion and "victory."

Yes, Scheer is an avowed Socialist, with a capital S.

Unfortunately, he is also a Professor in the School of Communications at my alma mater, the University of Southern California. Every time I get a notice about a fund-raiser from the University, I send it back with a note that says that I no longer contribute to USC because of him & that I will not re-start my donations until he has been removed from his position.

Robert Scheer writes unmitigated political and military bullsh*t. He always has. He always will. And no honest and competent editor for any publication would print such garbage. With that said .....

The creation of a stable, functional democracy in Germany after WW II took a total of four years. It also took four years in Japan, but that was not comparable because the authority of the Emperor had been committed to the change in Japan. In Germany there were continuing military attacks especially in the first year of occupation -- as there are today in Iraq.

In short, if Scheer had ever cracked a history book, he would not have written his drivel. If the editors had ever cracked a history book, they wouldn't have printed his drivel. But Scheer is Scheer, and the L.A. Times is the L.A. Times. Neither competence nor honesty should be expected from either.

Other than those minor quibbles, this is a fine article. LOL.

You are so right! Why else would Robert McNamara have written his book on Viet Nam, as an apology to America.!!

This guy Scheer has practiced his complaining whine till now he has it tuned to a keening ululating wail, much like a newly widowed North African.

But as for informational content, well... the ululating North African wail analogy still holds.
