SACRAMENTO (AP) - Senate leader John Burton charged Tuesday that attempts to overturn a new law allowing undocumented immigrants to obtain drivers' licenses were being fueled by racism, but he stopped short of saying that was Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's motivation. "I say the issue is racism," the San Francisco Democrat told reporters. "Do you think if these people were white and not brown skinned we would be talking about it? I don't.

"State Senate Leader John Burton...stopped short of saying that (racism) was Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's motivation."

...Oh, sure, Mr. Burton. You may as well have gone ahead and said it. Amazing how these people like to parse words, isn't it?

...It seems politicians like Burton just cannot get it through their thick skulls that providing illegal aliens with drivers' licenses is an invitation for another large-scale attack on our country. The people who elected this guy into office are long overdue for frontal lobotomies.

I've said this before pre-election and I'll say it again. The head of the DMV is appointed by the Governor. One of the first acts of the Arnold Admin was to install a new DMV Director and freeze implementation of all pending Regulations. In order to issue these licenses, there might just have to be be new Regulations. Maybe, maybe not. It could disolve into a "You sue me" situation. Remember the DMV did not want to give back some money it illegally collected recently (Smog Impact Fee) even though it was ordered to do so by a Court. The Governor's power to do stuff by executive order is really mind-boggling. It just isn't used to keep peace in the family.

Yes, We MUST get those petitions signed, but I'm telling you, a new Sheriff's in town.

If you think the folks at the DMV wanted to hand out DL's to anyone, well, that's just wrong. They don't have the personpower (how PC) to implement this. Government can make things can move fast or slowly in a good way or a bad way. I'm voting for good. Wait till you see what happens with the VLF Refunds...

The voters of California will repeal SB60 by referendum in March. Let both parties beware Save our License Referendum. Get petitions signed and turned in. This is the ONLY way we will change this law. Arnold thought he had power to repeal this ?. He should have supported the referendum from the start!

WHAT ABOUT RECALLING LEGISLATORS WHO VOTE NO ON REPEALING THIS LAW?

With the exception of terrorist, criminals, and other troublemakers I really don't see a major poblem with giving undocumented Mexican workers driver licenses.

So many middle class white people take advantage of the undocumented Hispanic worker as in nannys, housekeepers, gardeners, caregivers, and general laborers with a pay that can be sometimes lower than minimum wage.

Why not let them drive to work with a real drivers license?

Seems hipocritical from where I live in South Orange County, you can't finder a warmer or harder working group of people...

Racist, nazi, blah blah nothing new. Thing is I think the American public is becoming inured to the constant childish name calling by the lefties. Just like Americans have become increasingly indifferent to obscene language. What once shocked now generates yawns of indifference. That is why more and more Americans are ignoring the name calling and demanding what is right be done. Once the totalitarians realize name calling doesn't work anymore they'll have to come up with something new. Whatever that is it won't involve debate since they know they don't have a leg to stand on, hence the name calling.

Blah, blah, blah. Even in a liberal state like Kantifordia, 66% of the public disagrees with Burton.

Your right. The race card has been played so much that I'm surprised when its NOT used.

LaRaza supports these drivers licenses so one could say its racist to support drivers licenses for illegals.

I don't care if you're blonde-haired, blue-eyed WASPs that speak the Queen's English better than I...

If you cross MY border without MY permission, then you have broken the laws of MY country, and you need to leave. You don't need to have life any cozier. Turn around, go home, and come back only when you're ready to play by the rules. In the meantime, work really hard at fixing the problems in your OWN country rather than coming here and causing problems in MINE.

Here, I'll break my own rule and make it easier for you to understand:

Si cruces MI frontera sin MI permiso, pues has traspasado las leyes de MI país, y tienes que volver a tu hogar. Vuéltate, regresa a tu país, y puedes volver sólo cuando estés listo de obedecer las reglas. Mientras tanto, ¿por qué no te esfuerzas para solucionar los problemas en TU propio país en vez de venir acá y causar problemas en el MÍO?

Of course I'm not speaking to YOU, Sam, in my above rant, but to whatever illegal--brown, white, green, or purple--who thinks he has a right to be here, just because he already got here. Didn't mean to make it sound like I was going off on you...

Nice little insult against State Sen. McClintock.

The SB 60 referendum is being run by the California Republican Assembly and Mr. McClintock. The referendum now has 300,000 signatures (out of the 375,000 needed to qualify), with 350,000 petitions on the streets.

All Californians owe the CRA and Mr. McClintock a debt of gratitude. The referendum IS THE ONLY WAY to stop drivers licenses for illegal aliens, unless there is a 2/3 vote of the Legislature (which would stop the Jan. 1 implementation).

Do you support licenses for illegal aliens? I would imagine you missed the last graph of the AP story -- or seem unwilling to see it:

"He said Schwarzenegger was willing to consider signing a similar law next year that had greater security measures attached to it and would result in more motorists driving with auto insurance."

Why not? Why not let them vote? And why just Mexican's? Why not give licenses, voting rights to hard working Chinese and Koreans that can get in illegally? Don't they work hard too?

I know, lets just put up big old bill boards on our borders saying, "If your hardworking, come on in!"

Don't we have room for millions upon millions of more hard working people? We can build hundreds of 40 story pink apartment building for them, in your neighborhood. Sounds great huh? It's not like the freeways are bumper to bumper, or our jails and land fills and class rooms are jammed packed.

The DMVs are all empty and they are just waiting for something to do, right? If there is standing room only at the local ER, we'll start putting chairs in the parking lots of hospitals and turn them into waiting rooms.

We could really use millions of more uneducated lawn mowers, and nannys huh?

I read your post and all I could picture is a jackass.

Set your freaking alarm and and wake up.....Sheeeeet.....

I read your post and all I could picture is a jackass

I take it this really get's under your skin eh? I'm in the construction trade and I can tell you that So California is built largely by undocumented Mexican workers. The problem is far from illegals getting a drivers license, and much to do with the demand for cheap labor. The people who hire these workers are well aware of their status and capitalize on it.

The problems you describe won't be solved until someone get's to the root of it. It's as simple as supply and demand. As far as the "jackass comment" I would like you to look around if you live here, the conditions you describe are already here. This country was built on the backs of immigrants. Are you an American Indian? And what are your conditions for immigrants to become naturalized citizens?

This may sound like a cheap shot, but the anger in you post really smacks of racism...(you left out white European immigrants)

Set your freaking alarm and wake up....sheeeet!

I'm trying to show you the irony of it all, but your anger blinds you...

...so document them.

How many terrorist were Mexican migrant workers?

Wasn't it our President Reagan, who gave amnesty to these people?

Yes --- it's just that famous race card. When I've traveled to Mexico, the Mexicans didn't hand me a Mexican drivers license. Are they a bunch of racists down there or what?

"Nice little insult against State Sen. McClintock. "

I have not seen his name even once in the paper or mentioned on TV since the election. His website shows no press releases and no events scheduled.

For someone who pressed this issue in order to try to gain votes, he seems to be missing in action now that the election is over.

Insult ... maybe, but it IS a fact...
