Showtime plans to air the controversial movie "The Reagans" without commercials on Nov. 30, rather than in 2004."We just thought it didn't make sense to prolong this and bring it on next year," said Robert Greenblatt, Showtime's entertainment president. "I'm just tired of people making judgments on this when they haven't seen it. Let them see it."
Michael Paranzino, who set up the Web site boycottcbs.com to fight the TV movie, originally scheduled to air on CBS, told the Associated Press, "I think that Showtime realized they have a turkey on their hands, and turkeys don't last much beyond Thanksgiving. I'm disappointed that they reversed their promise to take a fresh look and not air it until 2004."
He says that, like most people, he'll have better things to do that night. "I've never had Showtime because I never had a strong interest in watching 'Porky's Revenge' at 3:30 in the morning."
Gutless bastards.
Salon posted the entire original script as a PDF. The article that announced this and excerpts found by FReepers were posted to FR.
I've seen people who worked on The Fake Reagans claim that "it's not finished yet". Reportedly they were altering the film to remove/replace some of the most outrageous elements. Which version will Showtime be airing, the original "unedited director's cut" or the whitewashed "somebody's watching us now so cut this out" version?
I don't need to hear this snowjob from Hollywood.
How many news reporters take Harry Knowles "Ain't It Cool News . com" to task for trash talking films that few if any have seen???
Viacom owns SeeBS and Showtime. I'd say that Showtime subscribers are sponsoring this whether or not they "support" it. Dropping Showtime would be a sign to Viacom.
The other more extreme option is to tune out Viacom altogether (don't rent their billboards, don't listen to their radio stations, don't watch SeeBS, eMpTV, M2, Vh-1, Nick, Spike, TV Land... you get the idea.
