"Confederate flag wavers are 'not a group that votes very much of the time. Or if they did, they wouldn't think that a New England Democrat would represent them,' said Earl Black, a professor of political science at Rice University."

Yet, the irony is how Southern values - White and Black are so close - united more by culture than divided by race. Finally, somebody gets it!

Beautiful. Absolutely beautiful stuff. It's so clear, so obvious to anybody who's really taken the time to examine the South, or lived here for an extended period. And the Dim Dummies STILL won't get it.

We are Americans first. We are Federalists who believe in the Constitution as it was intended, not as it has become with the Judicial Oligarchy and Federal Behemoth. We don't want to be ruled by the U.N. or anybody else. We don't give a damn what foreigners think of us. And, frankly, my dear, we don't give a damn what Yankees think of us (and that really bothers them). He must be a Freeper.

If only the Liberals could understand that complex thoughts - not easy divisions of race, class and gender(s) - reside, simultaneously, in the heads of most Southerners. The problem with liberals is that they think that talking slowly equates thinking slowly when sometimes means that we are just thinking about what we are going to say.

Confederate symbols stand for an incredible heritage of courage, sacrifice, and fidelity. Proudly flying the 1st National, the Southern Cross of Honor, and the Bonnie Blue in the back window of my pickup truck.

Thanks, man, that was great and timely. Am bookmarking this one.
I think most of us (Southerners) have these beliefs and live by them without a great deal of thought or analysis. It was good to read these words that captured and expressed what I believe so well.
Hope this James A. Bowden finds out he has a new following.

I think Mr. Bowden truncated one of his sentences:
'Although, Dean stumbled over truth when he talked down to Southerners to get over "race, guns, God and gays."'
probably should read:
"Although, Dean stumbled over truth when he talked down to Southerners to get over "race, guns, God and gays," he got up again and walked away."
Its a complete sentence AND it pretty much describes what that moron Dean did...
I can't wait for this guy to get the Democrat nomination. With a little luck, he will be the end of the Democrats as a national party.

I have traveled all over this country and as most people who have will tell you...there are rednecks EVERYWHERE!!! I have met some of the biggest hicks in PA as I have in Alabama! It is just a state of being, not a state!
And as far as blacks and whites in the south, I have met some really great whites and some really great blacks! But, I have also met some real sh*theads that were white and some real sh*theads that were black!
I don't care if you are green, if you are a sh*t, you are a sh*t!!! Most people I know here in the South, feel as I do. Your skin color means very little...the color of your character means everything!

The Deans were Republicans for generations, going back to the days of Lincoln and McKinley. But Howard Dean left his ancestral party, just as many Southerners have left theirs. The same thing is happening in my state of Illinois. The "Land of Lincoln" is now Democratic from top to bottom. I don't think either party is going to be a national party, the way things are going. I think we're going to have two regional parties -- again.
