urgent - immediate broadcast requested Tornado Watch number 948 NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK 905 am CDT Mon Nov 17 2003

The NWS Storm Prediction Center has issued a Tornado Watch for portions of

Southwest... central and eastern Oklahoma North Texas

Effective this Monday morning and afternoon from 905 am until 200 PM CDT.

Tornadoes... hail to 2 inches in diameter... thunderstorm wind gusts to 70 mph... and dangerous lightning are possible in these areas.

The Tornado Watch area is along and 80 statute miles east and west of a line from 15 miles north northeast of Bartlesville Oklahoma to 15 miles south of Mineral Wells Texas.

Remember... a Tornado Watch means conditions are favorable for tornadoes and severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch area. Persons in these areas should be on the lookout for threatening weather conditions and listen for later statements and possible warnings.

Other watch information... continue... ww 947...

Discussion... thunderstorms expected to increase over OK and N TX during the next few hours... along trailing confluence zone associated with shortwave trough ejecting newd into neb/IA. Strength of deep shear and steep mid level lapse rates suggest likelihood for a few supercells with hail/wind and possibly a couple tornadoes.

Aviation... tornadoes and a few severe thunderstorms with hail surface and aloft to 2 inches. Extreme turbulence and surface wind gusts to 60 knots. A few cumulonimbi with maximum tops to 500. Mean storm motion vector 22035.

Sometimes these "watches" don't pan out but it's unusually warm and humid here in the Metroplex yesterday and today. Plus we've already had some hard rain in Richardson. This "watch" bears watching.

Just turned on the TV and the Tronado Watch covers all but the Far West and SE counties of OK and looks like it is into Kansas. Only major Thunderstorm in OK looks to be in the Ponca City area of OK which is way north.

All we have in Norman is a few raindrops for now!

This is for the Yanks that have moved down here.
