WSB-TV2 (Atlanta, GA) Refuses to Air Pro-Life Advertisements

It was announced this morning during Mass that WSB-TV2 refuses to give air time to commercials produced by the Georgia Right To Life organization.
The commercials were shown to the congregation before Mass. They are low-key and very non-confrontational productions. One commercial just has music in the background and a split screen. It shows, on the left side, a hand digging up a seed and on the right side, a hand planting a seed. Then we see the left side remain as a barren hole in the ground, while on the right, a baby grows into a toddler and then a school-aged boy, playing and doing things that a little boy will do.
This particular commercial, along with another produced by the GRTL organization have shown consistently on the Atlanta FOX network affiliate, along with pro-choice commercials. This is "fair and balanced" business practice. WSB-TV2 has chosen to be consistently one-sided, their slant being obviously towards the liberal viewership.
I am directing this post to many of our activists in GA and asking you to please ping your Georgia lists to actively boycott WSB-TV2, their sponsors and their affiliates. I am also pinging non-Georgians and asking for pro-life prayers to support *ALL* pro-life organizations in addition to Gerogia Right To Life and their sub-chapter, "Jeremiah's Call."
Here is an e-mail that I just sent to the only e-mail address that I could find for WSB-TV2 which is talk2us@wsbtv.com
******************************************************
To the WSB-TV Station Manager,
It has come to our attention that WSB-TV has refused to air commercials from the Georgia Right To Life organization.
It is unfortunate that you have indicated your slant towards pro-choice by not allowing editorials from both sides to be aired. A fair and balanced broadcast station would readily choose to offer air time to opposing views, rather than completely silencing one side.
Because of this, we will not support WSB-TV or any of your affiliates in any way, shape or manner. We will also be very vocal in spreading this information to the many pro-life viewers in Georgia both by spoken and written means.
We also will not support any of your sponsors and will make note of all sponsors who purchase air time on your station, especially during your news broadcasts.
In addition, we have noticed that your on-air reporters have taken an obvious anti-President Bush attitude in their reporting. I think you'll find out, in the long run, that continually offending those with moral and conservative beliefs in and around metro Atlanta will affect you financially. We may be soft-spoken, but we carry a lot of clout.
Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
Sandy and Dan Xxxxxxxxxxx
Norcross, GA 30092

They probably have to tell you if you call the station, Miss Angel.

Thank you. Is this something that comes up for annual renewal? If so, if I register a complaint to the FCC, would it be taken into considration in the renewal process?
(Aren't you sorry you answered me? LOL!)

Very good letter dansy. That is just appalling. Thanks for bringing it to our attention. I will forward it to my friends in Georgia.

Does WSB run pro-abortion ads, from NARAL/GARAL or some such? I don't watch them enough to know.
If they don't, I don't think I can be on them for not running GRTL ads.

I've seen one pro-life ad which is *very good*
A youngish looking blonde woman in a firefighter uniform talks about her own mothers decision to have her, and says, now that she's grown to be a firefighter, that "her decision has saved more than one life"
I don't know who produced or sponsores it (can a fellow freeper help here?), but it's so good, I think it should be in heavy rotation in every market.

I can't recall with absolute certainty which, if any, pro-choice ads they run. We watch WSB-TV (but no longer) for about 90 minutes each weekday morning while getting ready for work, in which they have definitely angered me for their anti-Bush slant. I also know that I have seen pro-choice ads - but it's not clear if they were shown definitely on Channel 2.
I'm willing to watch one more week to note any pro-choice ads with certainty. Then, I'll report back.

I'm never sorry to chat with you, Miss Angel! I believe the licences are up for renewal every 5 or 10 years, I don't think it's annually, but I'm not an expert, sorry. When you call the station, don't tell them you intend to make a complaint, just ask when the renewal comes. Your complaint to the FCC should state specifically it's in connection with their renewal, I'm pretty sure it would be taken into consideration then. It may help that you call the FCC and ask how you go about making such a complaint.
However, I must now prepare a large breakfast to counteract the slightly deleterious effects of having consumed a large martini and copious amounts of wine and no food at my sister's 50 birthday party last night. See you!

As I said, I absolutely agree with showing both sides. The FOX affiliate does and I have no quarrel with that.

Great report and excellent letter, dansy. Glad that the church informed the congregation that WSB-TV2 will not air the Pro-Life Advertisement. I have relatives in Georgia, will get the word out. Have a great day. I am going to borrow a quote of yours:

Sounds like it's time for a GA Freep and a boycot of a Leftist TV station.
