Well, it helps that most of the leaves are off the deciduous trees; one reason hurricanes and tropical storms around here cause worse power outages is that they hit with leaves on the trees.

Found this info from a Google search (from this link):

Re: When it is windy, why does the toilet water move?

Answer:

"I had noticed my toilet water swaying before, but never noticed the connection with the wind. Great observation!

In most homes, the drain system has a vertical pipe which leads to an outlet on the roof. This pipe is called a "vent stack". It allows sewage gases to vent to the air outside your house rather than bubbling up through your sink and toilet (ick!), and allows air to pass through the pipes, which ensures that wastewater drains smoothly.

When the wind blows over your house, the air pressure changes because of the "Bernoulli effect". The Bernoulli effect says that pressure becomes lower when flow is faster. It's this effect that sucks loose objects out the car window when you open it while driving; it also creates the lift that allows an airplane to fly. As the wind blows over your house, the Bernoulli effect lowers the pressure at the top of the vent stack. This creates a slight suction throughout the plumbing system, which pulls against the water sitting in the trap in the toilet bowl. As the wind strengthens and weakens, it produces more or less suction, which causes the water in the bowl to slosh."

Figured out that I could save $300.00 per month cutting buying lunch, breakfast and a metrocard. Not a bad deal and I lose weight in the process.

on, more precisely, that trees with leaves have a lot more wind resistance than trees without leaves.

Typical country fall weather. I remember one year Salt Lake City being ravaged by 80-100 mph winds for about a day. As I recall hearing about this news in the NYC area, I heard a guy say, "Stupid white trash get what 'day deserve living out 'dere."

Yes, instead of some guy wearing a John Deere cap, blue jeans, and a hooded sweatshirt talking about the destruction to his ranch house, we'll have some guy with a rolled up ski mask on his head, oversized pants and a hooded sweatshirt, talking about "dis, dat, and dee udder ding" when referring to the large tree lodged in his Centerreach palace (NYC sarcasm)."

Sounds like the Bernoulli effect on the plumbing vents, possibly. Any plumbing experts out there?

That is what I was thinking except I couldn't figure out where they were exposed to the change in pressure. Didn't think about the vents but that would make sense. It doesn't take much. I was going to ask my husband who pointed it out to me but he wasn't talking to me after I asked I commented that I am not the one who goes around looking in toilets (unless it is time to clean them). :)

Also.. isn't there something about a tornado coming that changes the water lever too? Or is that blizzareds, or both??? I don't remember. Brain is too fuzzy.

It felt like my car was going to fly off the Whitestone Bridge this morning.
Sure was a lot of "fun" crossing the 480 bridge this morning:

Hear the Yanks are going after Schilling.

Heard that too. I've heard Schilling isn't interested, but for all I know that's just a ploy on his part to get a better deal. He would be a great substitute for Roger Clemens.

I never got to feel like I was flying over the Throgs Neck bridge this morning. The bridge was bumper to bumper with trucks going extra slow.

Wind in Westchester right now is howling!

He'll come to NY. Much better chance for him to get back to the World Series. Also Arizona is apparenly very interested in Johnson and Soriano.
