Debka ^ | 11-3-2003 | Staff Monday, November 3, 2003 A new message was posted in the last few hours by the Jeddah-based al-Qaeda-linked Al-Islah (Reform) society calling on Muslims to flee New York, Washington and Los Angeles in advance of major al Qaeda attacks in those cities. This is revealed by DEBKAfile. The message accuses the United States of predetermining its end (doom) by its policies. ?The Jews rule the Pentagon by remote control and (are the cause) of Muslims being killed in every corner of the world. The United States should therefore expect more blows.? The message is signed on behalf of the al...

Hardly slept last night with the wind trying to lift the roof off my WV home. It's the final R.I.P. for the old shingle job.
Still windy right now.

I am a little SSE of you in the Indianapolis area. We had gusts of hurricane force last night. There were some over 70 mph between 9 and 11 pm. You could see the effect in the water level in the toilets. Weird. I sure would not have wanted to have been driving between here and there on I-65 last night. I was coming home about 9pm and the road would be covered with leaves blowing so fast it looked like a river of leaves so that you didn't know where the road ended. Or all around in the air like big brown snowflakes. The wind here now is only about 15-25 mph with gusts about 40-50 mph, I think. Blustery is the word that comes to mind.
I did read in the paper this morning that the wall of some restaurant was knocked down by the wind, injuring two people.

Wave heights have now topped 16 feet in Eastern Lake Erie and Eastern Lake Ontario (not that spectacular for the Atlantic, but amazing for those two lakes which have a limited fetch.)

Here in southern IN (greater Louisville, KY) we had absolutely horrible winds last night. There was no rain during these winds. We had the rain (a lot of it) earlier in the day. It's gusty out there, today, too - but not nearly as much as last night. Our power went off for a few hours, too.
My husband was out of town for business - in Columbus, OH - and he said that he experienced the same thing up there.

Well, I'm about 350 miles west of NYC, and the wind here is gusting to gale force. I'm just looking out the window wondering which of our sixty-foot pines might succumb.

I lost a beautiful tree in my front yard this morning, due to the winds here in suburban DC. I blame Bush. And Rice, too--let's not forget her. And Cheney! And Rumsfeld! And the Trilateral Commission! And. . .

You could see the effect in the water level in the toilets. Sounds like the Bernoulli effect on the plumbing vents, possibly. Any plumbing experts out there?

This is the second time New York has had a high wind advisory. Well as long as it is not accompanied with snow I can deal with it. Hopefully we won't have 2 feet of snow like last year.

here in Rochester at the factory this morning a 12' masonry block wall was actually flexing 3/4" at the top - I called our contractors engineer who was rather non impressed - "we design them to do that".......bull crap
I made a point to document our conversation, time etc.... fortunately opening for deer season is looking pleasant

I live in Central NJ and the wind was intense this morning. I was actually tempted to begin running in circles screaming "Aunti Em', Aunti Em...it's a twister!!".
Fortunately, my sanity (and a good cup of coffee) prevailed.
