Talk show host Jon Matthews indicted on indecency with a child charge

RICHMOND -- Radio talk show host Jon Matthews was arrested in Sugar Land today and charged with one count of indecency with a child.
After weeks of speculation, he was indicted by a Fort Bend County jury and taken into custody at 3 p.m. today. A news conference is scheduled for 5:15 p.m. Indecency with a child is a third-degree felony.
KSEV-AM 700 pulled the 59-year-old broadcaster off the air on Oct. 24 when the station's owner learned that Matthews was being investigated by Sugar Land police because of an "allegation from a community member." He had been the host of a weekday news show from 6 to 9 a.m.
Details have been slow to emerge in the investigation, and the Houston Chronicle had requested a copy of the police report under the Texas Public Information Act. State law says police departments cannot withhold basic information such as the date and location of an alleged incident and a description of the offense.
The only detail police spokeswoman Pat Whitty would release before today was that the alleged incident happened in the 500 block of Rolling Mill, the street where Matthews lives.
Matthews appeared before the grand jury on Tuesday, followed by his wife, Carolyn.

Who is this guy? Anyone know?
Didn't Art Bell get tagged with the same kind of thing?

Ex-Marine, very conservative talk show host for early morning slot in Houston. Older than the hills and has been in radio about that long.
He's not quite "out there" like Bell. Can come off as a grumpy old guy at times, but has solid conservative views.

I can't help but think of the commercials Jon did for the windows - where he would talk about standing at them in his underwear.
*PING!*
As always, a FReep mail will get you on or off this Houston topics ping list.

Yeah, heard it on the local TeleV news programs earlier. I hope people remember that he is only "indicted" and NOT convicted. Of course his career on talk radio is over. What a shame.

Didn't Art Bell get tagged with the same kind of thing? Absolutely not. Bell's son was a victim of a paedophile.

I will believe he is innocent until he is convicted. The child COULD be lying. Or Jon may have been in his backyard in a swimming poor or hot tub and the kid peeked over the fence?

Of course his career on talk radio is over. What a shame. I've been out of Houston (served my term) for a few years but wasn't it "Ed Brandon" that had a liking for young black boys with a $$$ incentive and a cocaine habit to boot?
Is 'ole Ed still doing the weather for one of the local tv channels?
He was when I left Houston...after all of his "misdeeds and rehab"...
